Just dropped to 45 with gusty NW winds continuing. At this rate we'll be in the upper 30's by 5 PM.

The front just hit here. Wish there'd have been some strong storms with it to make the day exciting.

Earlier today, my low was only expected to be 34° tonight. NWS just issued a freeze warning. It just goes to show you how hard it is to predict what's going to happen a week out when things change so much in just a few hours. The front came in earlier and stronger than expected.

41 here and still dropping. Don't think I'll make 40 by 5pm but I won't be surprised if they drop the lows a few degrees tonight.
edit- They just showed the expected lows and they are down about 2-3 degrees.

I think you saw my post on the local board. 39.7 and still dropping. Those winds are still gusting in the mid 30 range. :flag:

This front has definitely come in stronger than expected, or it looks that way to me. We are currently at 35.5f and continuing a steady drop. Even if the rate slows we should easily be in the upper 20's by morning. I will be surprised if there isn't a lowering of the progged lows for tonight and tomorrow night.

edit to add-Larry Cosgrove is saying a slight possibility of some mixed winter precip in the Northern Metro area Sunday night. http://www.examiner.com/weather-in-houston/weekend-weather-forecast-for-houston-and-vicinity-friday-january-21-2011

edit(9:25pm)-Now at 33.3f and still steadily dropping with the winds still up. Interesting. What will the bottom be?

I'm not sure what he's seeing to suggest snow north of here. Projected vertical soundings from the GFS and NAM have the air column well above freezing all the way up to 8000 ft Sunday night, with no moisture above 8000ft in the colder air. All clouds and precip are indicated to be in air that is well above freezing.

Gonna be busts across the board for morning low temps. Not one of the local ocms took their temps into the 20's for areas closer in and I am already below 32. I'll stick with my upper 20's for my local, but that may be a little high.

I'd say it's disappointed me more than confounded me. I was looking forward to a dozen or so long bike rides in the warm, sunny January. Only 2 so far, and in some quite cold weather. I'll have to push to reach my 3500 mile goal this year.

Yeah this year has really warped my running. I have had injuries I thought I would never had (strained shoulder muscle). Very weird winter....for me.

Low was 28f this am under cloudy skies. If it had stayed clear overnight we would have been in the mid 20's easily.
And now has anyone seen Wxman57 around? He apparently has been kidnapped! :cheesy: :cheesy: To say the least the next couple of weeks will have my undivided attention when it comes to weather! Between JB's video and Wxman57's post this is getting almost "scary". Am I expecting "snowmagedon"? No. Am I expecting a significant winter weather event for Texas in the early February time frame? Yes. I, along with a few others have been discussing this behind the scenes till some "consistency" showed up in the models. The details will work themselves out soon enough. Eyes wide open!!

LOL - Mr. Heat Miser apparently went on vacation without notice.

If this cold weather continues, we better get some snow out of it! Image

Edit: Btw, it's not warming up yet. 10:20 and it's only 32° brrrr
Hard Freeze Warning for tonight. Mid 20s expected.

I've watched my predicted low for tonight go from 27° early this morning to 26° and now it's 25°

And yet another Hard Freeze Warning... so much for that mild winter. It's been consistently cold with very few warm-ups.

Image

Snippets From NWS LCH:

THE HARD FREEZE WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM THIS EVENING
TO 9 AM CST SATURDAY.

FREEZING TEMPERATURES WILL RETURN ONCE AGAIN TO CENTRAL LOUISIANA
AND INTERIOR EAST TEXAS AS COLD HIGH PRESSURE SETTLES OVER THE
AREA. TEMPERATURES BELOW FREEZING ARE POSSIBLE AS EARLY AS 9
PM...WITH 3 TO 5 HOURS OF HARD FREEZE CONDITIONS EXPECTED AFTER
MIDNIGHT.

A HARD FREEZE WARNING MEANS TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 20S OR COLDER
ARE IMMINENT OR HIGHLY LIKELY. THESE CONDITIONS WILL KILL CROPS
AND OTHER SENSITIVE VEGETATION.

:cold: Already down to 29.7f here at the house. Not sure when we went below freezing but it looks like we may be below freezing for a good 10 hours or so with a mid 20's low and I didn't cover the plants. :froze:
