In any event, it is possible that 132 of them could be "affected" because the counties in the west are very large and most of the counties are in the eastern 2/3 of the state.

Ahh...thank you and what I meant in saying 'my selfish comment' was that I did not think that there were 132 counties on the Gulf in Texas-not that all 256 counties would be affected...lol....
I think we are all on the verge of hysteria here. Just the verge mind you. We will control ourselves!

Some of you I think misunderstood my post. I meant 132 counties on the GULF COAST will get TS force or more conditions. This includes more counties than just those the Texas coast, there are counties on the LA, MS, AL, and even extreme western FL panhandle that have gotten TS force or higher winds.

Per Gulf Coast Pundit blog, part of Hilton in Clear Lake has collapsed. Very unofficial, no link.

It's true, I saw it on TWC.

KHOU Channel 11 reporter at the Hilton in Clear Lake just said that some siding had blown off of the hotel. No collapse at this time. KHOU is simulcasting on Direct TV channel 361 now.

Yeah Jay I was thinking that, Ike probably is dragging the hurricane force winds down to the surface in that band and as it comes into land I'm betting we start seeing hurricane force winds report.

Can i suggest something....when you're making a post and you hit submit and it shows that others have made a post during the time you were talking...if they've said the same thing you typed out...don't hit submit. I've just read the past 10 pages which could be condensed down to 5 without people posting the same thing.

If you want to chat like you've been doing in this thread, go to the chatroom. Y'all are making it ridiculously hard to find any decent information in this thread.
Perhaps it's just me, but I no longer receive the subsequent post warning, even if there have been posts.

I don't think we quite have 50 knot gusts, but it is real windy, and 5 miles or so West of IAH, we probably will lose power soon...

I was at the JSC across from the Hilton in Clear Lake during Alicia, and it lost most of its windows and lots of siding. But many people weathered the storm in there. There was one tornado some blocks behind the hotel that hit a shopping centre and residential area and killed 2 people that night. This really brings back so many flashbacks of weathering Alicia in Clear Lake.

:rarrow: Latest tide gauge information for select locations...

Calcasieu Pass: 10.26 feet (3 feet above forecast stage). At 13.3 feet, most of Cameron Parish is under water.
Sabine Pass: 8.57 feet (2 to 3 feet above forecast stage). At 9.8 feet, catastrophic flooding affects eastern Jefferson and Orange Counties.
Clear Creek at Friendswood: 6.16 feet. Flood stage begins at 12 feet.

Looks like recon is showing a bit of a WNW trend as the NHC have suggested, now a touch west of the forecast track tohugh given the large eye the center fix is only a best estimate right now, won't make a huge difference to the Galveston Bay.

Would the large directly over galveston bay be slightly better for surge than if the bay stayed in eastern eye wall?

Sorry if its been post, BUT now 18z GFDL and HWRF are showing IKE coming in on the west end of Galveston Island and literally on top of downtown....

FROM HOU CHONICLE:Any hopes for Galveston and communities along Galveston Bay to avoid a catastrophic storm surge may well be over.

The latest model runs offer those areas little comfort. Far from bringing Ike inland to the east of Galveston Island, both the HWRF and GFDL models bring the hurricane over the island's west end.

Although this won't produce a maximum surge over Galveston Island — that would require a strike closer to Freeport — a landfall on Galveston's west end should bring enough surge to likely overtop the city's seawall. I expect it to all but destroy most non-concrete structures not behind the seawall.

The storm surge at Galveston's Pier 21 has already reached 8.5 feet this evening, and we're still probably six hours from landfall, and nearly seven hours from high tide.

The storm surge will reach maximum levels, well above 20 feet most likely, along the coast of Galveston Bay. This will especially be the case on the west and north sides of the bay.

Unfortunately, we probably wouldn't get video of it. The cameraman would already be beating feet for high ground and higher.

I still have power here, but it is definitely getting gusty now. I'm just a few miles NNW of Bush Airport, but I haven't seen any gusts close to 59mph yet. Maybe a couple close to 40, that's it so far. Still no rain at all.
