The size of the African wave is unimportant. What is important is whether it has any spin, or is just a thunderstorm arc.

Arcs almost always collapse completely after leaving the coast.

Pic at 11 AM EDT:

As expected,as it hits the water, the giant size is somewhat less and less. But the structure continues to look good.

Is it me or is the axis of this wave or low over land still further east. If it is would think it would take some time to develop. This seems to be less impressive than it was a couple of days again rotation wise. Your thoughts.

Yes,the low is still inland well away from the coast.Lets see what happens when the low hits the water.

Yeah they are similar looking. IMO the structure is so key with this wave. Bertha nearly lost all its deep convection when it got too far from land but quite the structure and so managed to get going again.

UKMO does go fishing but starts this probably too far north at 15.7N, near Capre Verde, reminds me of what the models did with Bertha at first taking it too far north too quickly.

Re: Well Organized Wave emerging Africa / Low still inside

The low pressure of this system is where you see that blob of convection inside ready to come out late tonight or early in the morning hours.By the way,it has lost a lot of convection as it hits the water albeit still organized.Lets see when the low gets wet what happens.

cycloneye and all just a quick question; Is it my imagination or is the SAL further north than last year at this time? If so, does that not mean the potential for an above average Cape Verde season in everyone's opinion? Last year I do remember seeing the dust over our state somewhat regularly as a weather feature.

Too bad we have to research things like Sri Lankan fruit flies impacting the West Virginian gardening industry instead of things like, oh, Hurricanes and their environments (that's the end of my political commentary).
