I am not looking forward to the day after Thanksgiving at all. Our store (Sears) opens at 6 a.m. Last year, I had to work a split shift. I had to work 7 a.m.-12 p.m. Then, be back for 4. and work 4-9. I don't live in town and with the heavy traffic, it would of took a normal 15 minute drive back home almost 30 minutes. So, I knew it was not even worth for me to go home. A co-worker of mine also worked the same shift that day and she lives only 5 minutes away from work. So, after we got off our first shift, we went eat out. Then, went back to her house and took a nap until it was time to go back for the second shift.

In my latest edition of the WMJ.. I thought I'd mention 2 things that happened to me..

1st.. around 1:30pm ET.. there was a page for me to go to the podium, that I didn't quite here. When I arrived at the podium.. the message was.. "Store manager wants you to go out and push carts for 30-45 mins". Of course.. as agitated as I was lol.. I kept my cool, went out and did it and actually had some fun with it.. so that went OK..

Around 2:30pm ET.. I walk back outside as the store manager is pushing carts with our fellow CP's. I decide to help him out, so me, the manager and 1 of the CP's make a line of about 30 carts.

As... the store manager begins pushing.. him and I are talking.. I'm guiding the line in the middle trying to prevent it from sliding. Our CP keeps turning his head trying to respond to what we're discussing. Both me and the manager tell him "We can hear you.. keep your eyes straight ahead." At that point.. our line comes within 5 ft of a car lol..

So the store manager goes.. "Nelson {the other CP}".. watch where you're going.. you don't wanna have me have you coached along with John right.."

So as we're done.. Me and the store manager are joking about it.. and I go.. "Hey.. if you were to coach me.. the very next day.. I'd be like "Can I transfer to #817" {our rival Wal Mart in our district"..} and he'd said, he'd go.. " John, can I rip up your coaching and pretend it never happened" :lol:

Anyway.. The part that made my day came about 7:30. I had a customer who came in demanding prunes. I tried to calmly tell him "They're not here {in produce.. they're in Grocery" He insisted to tell me where he thought they were and pointed to them {he was actually pointing to strawberries} lol.. So I was starting to get irritated.. and I just simply said.. "Sir, let me call a manager".. The minute I called a manager.. The GUY WALKED AWAY! :lol:

I couldn't believe this guy walked off #1... or that he was so insistent on the prunes being in produce {I later found out they're actually in Aisle 8}.

Anyway.. the prune thing was 1 of those "Ya had to be there" type things..

I never seen somebody that loves their job so much. Let me get something off my chest. As soon as the madness of the holidays are over, I am going everywhere searching for a new job. And it sure won't be in retail. I have been there for 6 and half years and I am not taking the abuse any longer. 6 and half years and making an embarrasing $6.55 an hour! How they expect people to live off that kind of money? I am 29 and feel like I will be living with my parents forever. What infuriates me is that now they are starting the new people off at $6.50! I am only making a nickel more than the new hires and been there 3 times as long! Tell me if I am not getting screwed!

I do love my job, that's true..

and Yes.. you are being screwed if you've been there 3x as long and are only making 5 cents more.. thats outrageous

New update:

Even though I don't officially turn 23 till Midnight.. It'll be my happy 23rd birthday on Saturday.

Here's what happened today. It was something else..

Started around shortly after 3pm ET. At the afternoon meeting, I was serenaded to the 2nd shift groups' rendition of "Happy Birthday". I was even given a cupcake with a candle lol..

Next.. shortly after 5pm.. Someone I've been friends with since I was around 9 yrs old came in.. Tied 2 baloons around my produce cart, sang to me.. gave me a card.. and then left. The card enclosed $20./

Then around 6pm ET. 1 of our young female cashiers told me if I was off tomorrow.. I told her yes. That made her sad.. she wanted to take me out to lunch tomorrow.. {AS FRIENDS.. DON'T START THE ALARMS PEOPLE lol}

Minutes later.. Another young lady I work with.. gave me a 10$ gift card.. along with 6 baloons. I made it home with 3 lol..

Along with all this.. I also shared some cake with a girl I work with who turns 26 tomorrow..

Things are good.. Have I mentioned I love working at Wally World yet? :wink: :cry: {happy tears}

Also.. there are 3 young ladies that work in the bakery that told me, they would "surprise me" on Sunday.. so it may not be over yet..

What's the team name?

I once saw the Baton Rouge (LA) Kingfish when they were here.
We dont have hockey in Louisiana anymore.

Happy Birthday John! Hope you have a great time at the hockey game. As far as ice hockey in FL , we do have the 2004 Stanley Cup winners in Tampa, The Tampa Bay Lightning. So yes there is ice hockey in FL.
