Noreaster storm conditions

I don't think we got much more than 6" here, and it's been done since about 5am (yes I was up.) I'm a little disappointed. I wanted a big snow (and a day off monday lots of chores that need done!)

Very interesting storm in the way it affected us here with a sharp cutoff oriented SW-NE. York PA got hammered with 8" and places about 10 miles south of York got well over a foot. It was also bad toward Philly I'm hearing with King of Prussia, which is almost 75 miles due east, getting almost 20" of snow.

I imagine we'd have gotten hammered here too if the set up was more like the 1993 Superstorm.

I was looking around the Upton page for that - but everything is so darn slow or completely not there because of this snow! You can't get to any of the recent forecasts by way of clicking on the maps, and everything else is so slow the connection times out! At least for me, anyway.

Definately a storm to remember . . .

WOW! Largest snow storm EVER in NYC. I mean who would have thought! What a strange winter...

That's incredible. They weren't forecasting over a foot in NYC last night. It just goes to show that mesoscale features can be very important in these snowstorms. A deformation zone set up early this morning from NYC through S New Hampshire which set up a 30-50 mile wide band of very heavy snow (2+in per hour) that was nearly stationary the entire day. There were reports of thundersnow in this band too, so locally, the snowfall rates were even higher.

I used IWIN. Has been running fast for me. The NWS sites though were very slow earlier, with connection timeouts.

Ah, good idea. The NWS was giving me timeouts until about 6:30 - then I got this wonderful page that said "Eastern Region down . . ." and gave me some link to go to. Now THAT was surprising.

But all the ERH pages are backup and running like normal again, so I'll have to remember that for next time.

Snowfall totals for Central PA.

Areas just 30 miles from here got well over a foot to a foot and a half. 7.5" was recorded at the airport.

I think most of it fell between midnight and 3am, I peeked outside and it was coming down at a good clip then.
