UPDATE Fri Apr 19/13 830pmET

A resurgence of pockets of very heavy rainfall over portions of the island chain, again most especially affecting the Northern Windward and Leeward Islands. This has been the case for the last few days.... and today was another day of impressive rainfall for some spots... for the past 24 hours ending at 8pm on Friday night... Arnos Vale St Vincent 8mm, Hewannora Airport St Lucia 28mm, Vigie St Lucia 27mm, LeLamentin Martinique 40mm, Le Raizet Guadeloupe 62mm (thunderstorms), Golden ROck St Kitts 39mm, VC Bird Antigua 27mm (thunderstorms), Canefield Airport Dominica 46mm (thunderstorms) and another unprecedented rainfall amount out of Melville Hall Dominicia 163mm (near 7 inches of rain) after at least 7 inches of rain over the last 2 days prior. This has lead to serious land slides on Dominica, and sinkholes developing, with flashflooding. At least 2 people lost their lives early this morning on the island due to flooding it appears, according to reports. Other lesser rainfall reports from Juliana Airport St Maarten 5mm, Moriah Tobago 3mm..and in the Western Caribbean..Montego Bay Jamaica 10mm. Forecast models are indicating even more rainfall for some of the islands this weekend, with surging moisture levels.

- RAIN, RAIN AND MORE RAIN
•From: Lisette Stevens <jaco.lass at gmail.com>
•Date: Fri, 19 Apr 2013 11:38:02 -0300

Dominica has been deluged by rain over the last 48 hours! It was particularly bad all through last night and we actually got some lightning and had to let our dog Tippy sleep in the house with us - Tippy is like me terrified of lightning. We woke up to very sad news that the main road opened up between Ponte Casse and the Emerald pool near Shayanns bar this morning around 5.30 a.m. The road has developed a 40' chasm through it. A jeep travelling towards Roseau drove/fell into the hole and two people have died, a third managed to get out and is being treated at the local hospital. The road between us and the Hillsborough bridge is closed due to a landslide by the old Layou Hotel and the Layou river has run amok again. This is supposed to be the dry season. We seriously need some sunshine. It looks though that we could get more rain in the next 24 hours.

UPDATE: Two dead in Pond Casse accident
Dominica News Online - Friday, April 19th, 2013 at 6:30 AM

:rarrow: http://dominicanewsonline.com/news/home ... -accident/

DNO can now confirm that two members of the Dominica National Football Team were killed in an accident in the Pond Casse area on Friday.

This is according to Education Minister, Petter Saint Jean, who was on the scene.

The two men have been identified as National Coach Kurt Hector and Norran Jno Hope.

Their mangled bodies were removed from the vehicle earlier.

The accident occurred when the vehicle in which they were traveling plunged into a huge ditch caused by heavy rains.

It happened around 5:30 am, according to the police. The men were on their way to meet their team mates for a trip to St. Vincent to compete in the Windward Island Football tournament.

Another member of the national football team, Joslyn Prince, who was traveling with Hector and Jno Hope, though injured was able to climb out of the ditch and taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital where he was taken into surgery this morning, according to reports.

EDITOR’S NOTE: DNO would like to extend deepest condolences to all those affected by this tragedy.

Rains are coming in our way in Guadeloupe. We're always under an orange alert. It's raining more than nicely here. Numerous areas in Guadeloupe are flooded. If the situation evolves quickly we could have more troubles. Hopefully things don't seem too bad.... for the moment. Anyway, we must have to monitor carefully the situation.
Given our pro mets of Meteo-France Guadeloupe, looks like the most of these heavy rains should increase seriously tommorow but these wet weather conditions stall til Sunday and even Monday. We will see, i will keep your informed as possible.

Here are some impressive pics of the nasty amount of rain who falled in Dominica...

Landslide, flooding in Castle Bruce and environs
Dominica News Online - Friday, April 19th, 2013 at 11:31 AM

:rarrow: http://dominicanewsonline.com/news/home ... -environs/

Parliamentary Representative for the Castle Bruce constituency, Johnson Drigo, has urged residents in the area to stay out of harm’s way as landslides and flooding have been reported in that section of the island due to heavy rains.

“The Fair Trade office has flooded and flooding continues to be one of our major concerns at the moment,” he told DNO on Friday morning. “There is a major landslide near the Emerald Pool area and the road from Castle Bruce to San Sauveur is impassable because of heavy flooding. Some rocks have fallen in San Sauveur which needs to be cleared.”

He added that there is also a small landslide in the Petite Soufriere area.

“I am asking everyone to please stay indoors and away from the flooding unless they have some sort of emergency,” Drigo said. “Allow the emergency personnel to do their work and stay out of harm’s way.”

Heavy rainfalls have been affecting the island over the past two days which have resulted in water shortages, flooding and landslides in several parts of the island.

From a friend of Dominica...

:rarrow: http://stormcarib.com/reports/current/dominica.shtml

- Getting Hammered.
•From: Jackie Fullbrook <fullbrookt at gmail.com>
•Date: Sat, 20 Apr 2013 09:02:22 -0500

Good morning to you all, from very dry to very, very, wet. The island is getting hammered. Land slides across the island. Roads flooded. Rivers swollen and bursting their banks. Rocks and boulders across roads. And the very worst of it is up in the Pond Casse area where a 40ft. deep chasm appeared across the road. Unfortunately two people have lost their lives when the,bus they were travelling in ended up in the chasm. Very sad. Our back balcony is pretty well sheltered from wind and rain. Not this morning though. The whole balcony got a good soaking. I haven't checked the front yet but that is probably a paddling pool by now. Watching the run off from the Roseau river, in between the whiteouts, and the mud is going for miles out to sea. Hopefully this trough we are in will pass soon.

You all take care. Enjoy your day. Drive safe.

Scattered showers will continue to move thru PR this afternoon and tonight.Sunday and the early part of next week looks more dry.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
257 PM AST SAT APR 20 2013

.SYNOPSIS...UPPER LOW EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TO DRIFT TO THE
SOUTHEAST BEFORE IT MERGES WITH A LARGER CUTOFF LOW ON MONDAY.
SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE NORTH ATLANTIC IS EXPECTED TO
REMAIN STRONG AND CONTINUE TO CAUSE BREEZY CONDITIONS TO THE LOCAL
AREA FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS.

&&

.DISCUSSION...SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS HAVE REMAINED OVER THE
CARIBBEAN WATERS AND A FEW DEVELOPED ACROSS WESTERN PUERTO RICO
AFTER THE SEA BREEZE DEVELOPED. THIS ACTIVITY IS EXPECTED TO
CONTINUE INTO THE EVENING HOURS. MIMIC-TPW AND GFS MODEL SUGGESTS
THAT DRIER AIR IS MOVING IN AND IS EXPECTED TO BE IN OUR AREA
BY TOMORROW MORNING. IN ADDITION...GFS MODEL SUGGESTS THAT UPPER
LEVEL CONVERGENCE WILL DOMINATE OVER THAT LOCAL AREA BY THIS
EVENING..WHILE THE UPPER LEVEL DIVERGENCE MOVES FURTHER SOUTH.

SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY LOOKS DRIER AND MORE PLEASANT THAN IT HAS
BEEN FOR THE PAST FEW DAYS. PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES COULD BE AS
LOW AS ONE INCH WITH AN EAST NORTHEAST WIND AND MOSTLY ISOLATED SHOWERS.

.AVIATION...SHRA/TSRA ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE LOCAL AREA THROUGH
AT LEAST 22/00Z. AS A RESULT...MOUNTAIN OBSCURATIONS AND TEMPO

.MARINE...SEAS OF 7 FT OR LESS AND WINDS OF 21 KTS OR LESS EXPECTED.
SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED MAINLY
ACROSS THE CARIBBEAN COASTAL WATERS. GUIDANCE SUGGESTS THAT SEAS
WILL GO BELOW 7 FEET AS WELL AS WINDS WILL DECREASE SLIGHTLY ACROSS
THE ATLANTIC WATERS BY SUNDAY EVENING.

Good morning. More drier weather than what occurred in the past couple of days will be with us in PR and adjacent islands until mid-week when another trough will arrive increasing the showers.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
528 AM AST SUN APR 21 2013

.SYNOPSIS...UPPER LEVEL LOW AND ASSOCIATED TROUGH ACROSS THE EASTERN
CARIBBEAN WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE SOUTHEAST THROUGHOUT THE DAY...AS
IT MERGES WITH A BROAD CUTOFF LOW ACROSS CENTRAL ATLANTIC. ANOTHER
TROUGH WILL REACH THE FORECAST AREA FROM THE WEST ON WEDNESDAY.
SURFACE HIGH ACROSS THE NORTH ATLANTIC WILL CONTINUE TO PROMOTE A
MODERATE TO FRESH TRADE WIND FLOW ACROSS THE LOCAL ISLANDS.

&&

.DISCUSSION...SATELLITE IMAGERY INDICATED UPPER LEVEL LOW TO THE
NORTHEAST OF THE LOCAL ISLANDS WITH ASSOCIATED TROUGH ACROSS THE
EASTERN CARIBBEAN. THESE FEATURES HAVE BEEN RESULTING IN SHOWERS
AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE REGIONAL WATERS AS WELL AS
PORTIONS OF EASTERN PUERTO RICO DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. HOWEVER...
AFOREMENTIONED UPPER LEVEL LOW/ASSOCIATED TROUGH WILL MOVE SOUTHEAST
THROUGHOUT THE DAY...AS IT MERGES WITH A BROAD CUTOFF LOW ACROSS
THE CENTRAL ATLANTIC. THIS WILL RESULT IN UPPER LEVEL CONVERGENCE
AS WELL AS EROSION OF LOW LEVEL MOISTURE LOCALLY. THEREFORE FOR
THE NEXT TWO DAYS OR SO...EXPECT A GENERALLY FAIR AND MAINLY
STABLE WEATHER PATTERN WITH A FEW MORNING SHOWERS EMBEDDED IN THE
TRADES ACROSS THE WINDWARD SIDE OF THE LOCAL ISLANDS AND SHALLOW
