Ladies and gentleman, please meet Hurricane Beryl. :D

I don't think it's confirmed yet. Where are you seeing this?

Sorry, I ended up getting too excited. But I still think NHC will upgrade Beryl to C5 soon

Yeah it’s also near where those massive hot towers are firing. Hot towers just outside the CDO sometimes signal the beginnings of an EWRC (ex: Willa ‘18).

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

I thought it looked more "picturesque" earlier but Dvorak-wise that CDO is as thick as it's ever been.

I am only a tropical weather enthusiast. My predictions are not official and may or may not be backed by sound meteorological data. For official information, please refer to the NHC and NWS products.

This also reminds me of Felix in 2007 since that was another very small and powerful storm in that region. Those kind of storms tend to have higher pressures for their intensity, especially since like Felix, Beryl is beneath a ridge and at low latitude.

Dropsonde supports 938mb. Seems to be slowly deepening.

Just what this thing needs. More hot towers! Looks like we got another area of hot towers developing on the Northeast side. Not sure if we're going to get another pass in that area but sure seems like it's even going to get stronger

Yes. This thing has been hugging the right edge of the cone all day, and still is even now.

Craters wrote:I hope this isn't too far off topic, but could somebody go to Levi's video for today (https://youtu.be/HaBJbrV77II) and take a look at the patches of cumulus to the north of 96L, please? Between about 12:10 and 12:40 in the video, when he has the view of Beryl and 96L on a loop, there are some obvious, long-wavelength "ripples," for lack of a better term, that pass through the broken cumulus layer. They actually seem to affect the density, dispersion, and/or configuration of the cumulus. Are they some sort of gravity-wave phenomenon? If so, what would be causing them to propagate over such a large area? There doesn't seem to be any synchronized activity in the vicinity of 96L that would be comparable in scale...

Thanks!

I'm on mobile atm but if you are referring to the cloud formation just to the north of 96L thats a result of air mass gradient between the more stable air associated with the SAL directly to the north and the pocket of moist air associated with 96L. It's similar to the marine stratocumulus clouds that result from the stable air mass in the north Pacific.

We did it, we did it Beryl. You're going to be officially the earliest Category 5 hurricane on record in the Atlantic Basin. :tailgate:

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

When the Atlantic gets a category 5 before the EPAC gets a single depression, you know you're in for a cursed season.
