So it basically looks like summer is here to stay, but like I said before there are hints of rainy season coming as thunderstorms chances are enhanced at least where I'm at in SE Florida starting early-mid week.

I now realize the reason being why the -NAO is not helping us at all in terms of below average temperatures is concerned is because we have a -PNA as well which actually pumps the SE U.S. Ridge.

Oven like heat yesterday, but went outside and right now it is pretty muggy. Maybe we actually will get a storm today - fingers crossed (though I'm guessing anything that does develop will be up by the Lake as almost always lol)

It poured for maybe 5 minutes just before seven o clock yesterday. Picked up under a quarter an inch of rain, .22 to be exact. It looks like we go into a quasi-rainy season pattern here in SE Florida starting Wednesday.

Glorious rain is falling over SFL this evening. Hopefully that quasi-rainy season pattern does set up.

Re: Florida Weather
Latest NWS disco sounds very rainy-season-like especially Wed onward. We know this is really the quasi-rainy season with the real rainy season not getting going until after May 20th. I fully expect getting this into a dry pattern at some point until then.

exceptional heat is blowtorching the western half of the peninsula thanks to a strong southeast wind. Brooksville is now 97 and St Pete clearwater is 94!

Brooksville seems like the closest thing to a desert climate in Florida

It is the most extreme temp zone in central florida by far. much like TLH. Both places are fair game for teens in the winter and triple digit heat in the warm season. The PIE number is something considering the air has first advected across the bay. We've got some good mixing going on with dews dropping into the mid 60's and the ground is very dry...a huge tailwind for excessive heat. Nevertheless.. these temps are off the charts insane.

Re: Florida Weather
I am very concermed about tornado activity potential this morning into the early afternoon across North Florida and Southeast Georgia. Tornado watches in effect. I am closely monitoring severe thunderstorms right now from just east of Tallahassee northeastard through Valdosta into Southesst Georgia.

Re: Florida Weather
Also, quick mention we are in fir a period of soaking rain across N Northeast Florida the next couple of days. The severe weather potential today, then the frontal boundary will stall out right over North-Central Florida into Tuesday. We will have a convergence along the boundary which will trigger potential of very heavy rainfall especially Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Re: Florida Weather
Lots of rain on the docket for the next few days as a stalled out frontal boundary is parked right across the Northeast Florida region. I have already received about 1.25 in here at my locale since last night to current. We may get upwards to 4-6 inches by Thursday as we will have plenty of convergence with training cells over the next couple of days. We may have flood issues by the latter portions of this week.
It never fails. We have been in a drought since mid-February and now Mother Nature is finally giving us rain a at once!! One extreme to.another. Hopefully, the extremely dry soil will soak in much of thiis rain to help alleviate potential flooding.

The weather down here in South Florida went from bearable to unbearable in a blink of an eye! Thanks to our non-existent winter we jumped straight into nearly full blown summer mode here with little to no spring in sight with a quasi-rainy season pattern setting up shop here starting tomorrow thanks to a stalled out frontal boundary to our north. It's going to be a LONG hot summer folks!

Re: Florida Weather
I wouldn't say winter was non existent. There were many fronts that cooled us down nice. Nothing on the extreme side for the area though. I'm from bit further N than true S FL in Port Saint Lucie so that may be a factor.

It was a nice winter with alternating warm and cool and sufficient rain here. too bad it ended early. we had an 80 degree low here Monday and 78 today.

psyclone wrote:there wasn't an expectation of meaningful rain anyway. we've got drops falling here and cool temps. so locally the forecast failed and it is glorious with daytime temps cooler than most of the lows in recent weeks. Long term florida remains stubbornly warm while the eastern US goes cold. I would imagine such a tight thermal gradient would favor some active weather including severe potential over portions of the southeast given said gradient and the calendar. Perhaps some less boring weather is on the docket..
The severe potential with that expected gradient certainly panned out. Those extended outlooks really give a heads up a good 10 days in advance. They give clues in tropical season as well.
