I remember stepping out on my porch to go to work, and similar to a Three Stooges move, both legs went up in the air and I ended up sprawled on the steps in a very unladylike position. My apartment stairs were a solid sheet of ice. I made it back inside to replace the ripped hosiery and change clothes, when I got a call from the boss saying, "Stay home!" Timing really is everything...

Pics, we want pics!!!!LOL j/k Jen!!!! I remember when you are talking about. I wish my boss had said to stay home then!!

Lord only knows if pics exist of that little contretemps, but I'd rather NOT see them myself! Actually, I am glad to hear you remember that event as I seem to be the only one of my acquaintance who recalls it.

If you are talking about this upcoming cold snap, it is about as abnormal as you can get. This weekend Texans should be out doing some BBQ' or frolicking at the beach. Not huddled up inside freezing cold...

Off topic - I sure miss Germany...;) Lived in Fulda and Wurzburg.

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 726 AM CDT FRI APR 6 2007/

MARINE...
TIDE LEVELS AND WIND ARE THE MAIN ITEMS OF CONCERN THIS WEEKEND. A
COASTAL TROUGH IS EXPECTED TO FORM BY SATURDAY MORNING JUST OFF
THE COAST. THE COMBINATION OF THIS LOW PRESSURE INTERACTING WITH
THE HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE PLAINS AND THE COLD AIR MOVING OVER THE
RELATIVELY WARM GULF WATERS WILL HELP GENERATE SMALL CRAFT
ADVISORY CONDITIONS BY TONIGHT. BY SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY
SOME GALE FORCE WIND GUSTS LOOK LIKELY IF THE MODELS PAN OUT.

THE PERSISTANT AND STRONG NORTHEASTERLY WINDS WILL HELP PUSH WATER
LEVELS ONTO THE COAST.
AM EXPECTING ABOVE NORMAL TIDE LEVELS BY
SATURDAY AFTERNOON. TIDES MAY BECOME A PROBLEM SATURDAY NIGHT AND
SUNDAY IF THE GALE FORCE WIND GUSTS PAN OUT FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD
OF TIME. A COASTAL FLOOD WATCH MAY BE ISSUED LATER TODAY IF
CONDITIONS WARRENT...MEANING IF TIDES ARE FORECAST TO REACH ABOVE
4.5 FEET ABOVE THE MEAN LOWER LOW WATER LEVEL.

E and ENE winds result in Ekamn pumping and transport toward the right or N toward the coast. This results in tidal pile-up and overwash. Same thing happens when a tropical cyclone passes to our south and the tides increase due to E winds on the north side of the circulation

I thought so, too. We have some cold days dureing late spring, called (*sheep cold - means some cold days when sheep´s wool has already been cut off*) but i couldn´t remember having heard such about US-Cities at the latitude of greek or something.

@Offtopic: So you served i guess - but take it easy, we sent our best Würzburger as a ~little~ compensation

No way. It suppose to be warm. A cold April is abnormal. It does happen, but rarely. The last time April was this cold was in 1987.

Thanks for the response Jeff! Yes, I can understand the E or ENE directions piling up the water on the coast. It was the NWS stating "NE" that had me all cornfuzzled. I noticed in your morning update that you talked about ENE winds, and THAT made sense to me. Thanks again!

Here's something interesting. April of 1987 had a cold start, in fact it had record lows. Then in the later half of April, there was record warmth. Using history as a way to predict the future, I expect warmer than normal April. The latest freeze ever recorded was on April 13, 1940. The latest snowfall ever recorded was on March 10, 1932.

I wasn't expecting it to be this chilly when I got up. It's already down to 45.2 here at my house. It was 45.8 when I got up about 10 minutes ago so I guess it is slowly dropping. The winds is blowing hard and we've got solid dark gray overcast skies. It DEFINATELY feels/looks like winter outside!

What do y'all think of the radar this morning from accuweather? That can't be snow heading for Southeast, Texas?? It might be snow in the upper levels but hitting the ground as a cold rain. That's my guess anyways. :D

My cousin just called me from the town of Montgomery and they are getting good sleet right now!

Just at 50 here in NW Corpus. Went out to get the paper this morning and I thought I woke in January with the cold, north wind slapping my face.

This is kind of like a big early cold front in the fall, but in reverse. At least in the fall we know we'll cool down somewhat again several times. This is probably it until October if we are lucky as far a cold/cool weather. That of course is subject to change if we have wet weather pattern during the summer.

Weird indeed.

wow!

I wonder if we will see any either? Seems like temperatures are certainly falling faster than the NWS expected. I am sitting at 41.9-degrees now and the NWS didn't have us getting that cold until 10pm! We are 12 hours ahead of schedule.

I think Portstorm is getting his pads and helmet out of storage right now. Lucy might be teeing it up for him later today.

A good part of the rapid plunge in temps this morning has been evaporative cooling with the onset of the rain.
