I don’t find those comments condescending. wx makes the money to put out real forecasts and often credits them for their excellent work. Some light snark is fair as we are all enthusiasts jmo.

SW eyewall also drying out. Big drop in humidity as well.
NE eyewall saturated.
Dry air getting into the core now.
I think it sucked some dry air in this morning but seems to be back on track which isn’t good. Turn baby turn, selfish I know.
We have all been there!

Hard to believe but honestly looks like it might try to at least partially clear an eye coming up soon

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Is it just me or does it seem like an eye is trying to pop out?
Edit: just saw the people in the posts above me have the same thought.

Zeta's definitely turned N-NE....all important...will it turn more NE as it approaches the coast?

One of the best looking CAT 1, low end CAT 2 hurricanes I have seen in a very long time. I have seen CAT 3 storms look not as good and have seen other CAT 1 and CAT 2 hurricanes look so bad, they looked like summer tstorms.

I think the next recon plane coming in will find a Category 2 hurricane.

Not sure how that's a saving grace...that fast motion is why we're even getting winds in Atlanta in the first place. If it were a more typical slower storm, the winds wouldn't even make it here.
Sure, a faster storm will drop less in the way of rain, but Atlanta can barely handle any rain now anyway. We've had a ton of rain this fall, so our soils are completely saturated. Last Saturday showed us that just 2 inches of rain is going to cause significant flooding across the Atlanta metro. The last thing we need is another 2-4 inches from Zeta.
Well if it was slower then you are looking at a deluge of rain, which we just cant take much more of here. If I had my choice...it would probably be 2 to 3 hours of wind and 2-4 inches of rain rather than less wind and 6-8 inches of rain.

Even the weather channel just mentioned that it could be close to 85 MPH right now. They mentioned that they don't think it will strengthen from here because there will be A bit more shear and the water is getting cooler. All excellent points. Their comments kind of echo what WXman says as well...

Right on track. No surprises. The speed it is moving, is very well defined by the steering pattern. Not much wiggle room for any dramatic path changes.

I'm thinking this is a Cat 2 now and will likely be upgraded at some point today. Trying to pop an eye out. Not good for a storm about to make landfall. Stay safe everyone

Re: ATL: ZETA - Hurricane - Discussion
I'm in the mountains of western NC this week...didn't get much tropical action in sofla this year but the center of zeta is coming overhead tomorrow...models looking like 4 inches of precip, 30-40knts of wind, not too shabby this far away...there is a low right behind it riding the front tomorrow afternoon. A S/W is passing through this morning moistening up the already wet ground so flash flooding should be a real issue tomorrow. Interesting 24 hours with three systems moving through in progressive fashion. By Friday, its all a faded memory.[/quote]
Was up there on the Blue Ridge last week, absolutely beautiful, but those mountain passes and the tops will be scary with the winds they expect and the power outages will be massive.

Has around 6 more hours before landfall, I would expect that to occur at around 4-6 pm CDT, as either a high-end Category 1 or a low-end Category 2. All the global and hurricane model guidance continue to suggest that pressure falls could occur until the moment of landfall.
One of the strongest storms to make landfall in the US this late in the season.

They must not be looking at the satellite images the rest of us are seeing.

You mean 85kts? Because this is much closer to 85kts than 75kts by the looks of it
