Unfortunate that this storm has crawled at the perfect amount of pace to keep it from upwelling enough water to weaken itself. Def seeing a slight jog to the north, but still could be in wobble territory.

Never seen a storm maintain this symmetrical of a structure with this perfect of an eye for this long. It's been a couple days now? I'm sure it's happened before, but it's crazy, normally that kind of satellite presentation only lasts a few hours before something disrupts it, like the eye gets filled in or asymmetrical for a bit. I think Katrina looked amazing for like a day but of course hit land and was starting to fall apart a bit before that.

Melissa's eye is one of the driest eye ever recorded.
The driest, I believe. Previous record was Super Typhoon Meranti @ -5.00 6.9μm brightness, to Melissa's -4.75.

Yeah very likely. There are different bands for water vapor but I believe Melissa is the driest on all of them, surpassing Typhoon Meranti, Typhoon Goni and Hurricane Patricia.

The last vortex msg had the remark
Birds in the eyewall (I think they mean in the eye itself)
I guess if you are a bird, you dont have much choice but to ride it out in the eye

It's amazing that Melissa's eyewall is still filled with lightning, even at this intensity. I know that it's not necessarily a robust and scientific indicator, but it could mean that Melissa is still strengthening.

If this keeps up for the next several hours, perhaps recon could find a sub-900 system when it gets there. And what’s scary is that could actually happen. Seems like it just continues to undergo eyewall melds and not a full EWRC that would permanently halt its intensification.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Why did they move the one that was there? That seems crazy in the middle of this major event. I was on the other one and it suddenly jumped to the East Coast.
