Re: Caribbean - C America: Bad weather in NE Carib Fri thru Sat
Gusty, you cannot imagine how saturated the ground is. It is amazing..
right now the rain has lightened up a little but I am not going anywhere today for sure.
I can see that more rain will fall unfortunately.

Well,is now the Northern Leewards turn today to have the bad weather as PR clears out but we expect afternoon showers and with the grounds oversaturated, flooding can be expected but the overall trend is for things to be better after Saturday and a dry next few days will be the rule in the NE Caribbean. In general between 4-6 inches fell in PR with a few small pockets of between 6-9 inches.

Thank you gustywind and msbee. I read the Daily Herald this morning and there was nothing about the heavy rains (except the usual weather forecast on the inside page...didn't realise the online version might have more info...still when I checked the government info page it was the same warning that was posted yesterday and Laser 101 was on a recording..and meteosxm just had the proforma bulletin saying heavy rainfall through Sunday...no real info..hence my relief on finding info here.

Wow! From the photos and comments, looks like you folk have had quite a lot of rain. Thankfully, everyone's okay. Looks like Barbados is now getting affected by this system. During the past half-hour or so, we've had some wind gusts which I'm sure were in the tropical storm force range, accompanied with a bit of rain. It's quiet and overcast now but I can see from satellite imagery that heavy convection is on its way from the northwest.
Will keep you posted.

Looks like good news for PR:) Cycloneye. Let's hope that things really calm down in PR and for all the Leewards even if today should be wet again and humid.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION...UPDATED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
1102 AM AST SAT NOV 8 2014
.SYNOPSIS...UPPER LEVEL LOW PRES OVER HISPANIOLA WILL LIFT
NORTHEAST AND AWAY FROM THE AREA TONIGHT. UPPER LEVEL RIDGE WILL
BUILD OVER THE REGION SUNDAY AND MONDAY.
&&
.DISCUSSION...MID-LEVEL DRY SLOT (700-400 MB) IS EVIDENT ON GOES-
SOUNDER DATA OVER PR THIS MORNING. THIS WILL GREATLY LIMIT AREAL
COVERAGE OF SHOWERS AND T-STORMS TODAY. HOWEVER...GLOBAL MODELS
SHOW A LOW-LEVEL JET FOCUSING OVER SOUTHEAST PR AND THE USVI
TONIGHT AND SUNDAY WITH A CORRESPONDENT SURGE IN MOISTURE AND
INSTABILITY. THIS IS LIKELY TO RESULT IN A NEW ROUND OF SHOWERS
AND T-STORMS OVR SOUTHEAST AND EASTERN PR AND THE USVI TONIGHT AND
MUCH OF SUNDAY. WHILE A REPEAT OF FRIDAY IS NOT ANTICIPATED...ANY
RAINS COULD CAUSE FLOODING PROBLEMS GIVEN CURRENT HYDROLOGICAL
CONDITIONS. SHOWERS COULD LINGER INTO SUNDAY EVENING. MUCH DRYER
CONDITIONS FOR MON AND TUESDAY UNDER STRENGTHENING UPPER LEVEL
RIDGE. ANOTHER UPPER LEVEL TROUGH WILL SWING THROUGH THE AREA
TUE AND WED BUT MOISTURE AND INSTABILITY WILL BE IN SHORT SUPPLY
THIS TIME.
