WPAC: RAGASA - Post-Tropical

Re: WPAC: RAGASA - Typhoon
Current track and strength probably means a pretty severe storm surge situation in the delta. Especially like track from the current 18z Euro.

Re: WPAC: RAGASA - Typhoon
Things are still fairly calm in Hong Kong - just a little breezy. But from radar the first outer band is about to hit in the next hour or so. The city is pretty much shut down as is all of the Pearl River delta to Guangzhou. Signal 8 in HK soon if not already.

Re: WPAC: RAGASA - Typhoon
Winds starting to pick up in Hong Kong. Looks like the outer eye wall is moving close. Looks like the inner eye wall structure will stay offshore at HK - seems to be going right down the centerline of the forecast track.

How far is this from the center? It seems like it would support an intensity deeper than the current BT estimate of 937 hPa, regardless....

Shenzhen is a long way from the eye though. Hong Kong is closer....

I stand corrected. This platform is 220 km southeast of Hong Kong. So closer to the center.

Re: WPAC: RAGASA - Typhoon
Very windy in Hong Kong - we have been in the outermost of the 2 eyewalls (if that is what it still is) for a couple of hours. Some damage that I can see from my hotel room - hopefully others are OK. I imagine the windward facing buildings at elevation and on the mountains could have some significant damage. Signal 10 at 5 am - supposedly the 18th Signal 10 since 1946. Should be on the back side soon.

Re: WPAC: RAGASA - Typhoon
Strongest gusts so far right now at 8:58 am local time in Hong Kong/Kowloon. I suspect it is because on the back side the wind direction is unimpeded by Hong Kong Island and Victoria Peak. I must be really bad on the windward side.
