Imagine life in New Orleans during the freeze of 1899. Ice on the Mississippi River. It got down to 7 degrees.....MGC

Interestingly enough, ice made it to New Orleans at least once when I lived in Algiers...it was either the 70's or early 80's...

i remember several episodes where it ice made it to natchez and even to BR...

In reading about the 1899 event...it says that the river was covered 2" thick at New Orleans (ice covered from minnesota to NOLA!)...I was only referring to having visible ice chunks in the river at NOLA....

Was that the time the 'Siberian' blast came through here? I remember the handles on the car were frozen and we couldn't get into the car I don't know how people deal with that on a regular basis.

Yes, as a child I remember ice floating down the MS River in New Orleans...there was a lot of ice, it wasn't just a chunk here or there.

NWS discussion out of New Orleans, LA.

MODELS IN GOOD AGREEMENT ON
THE COLD FRONT PUSHING THROUGH THE AREA MONDAY. LIGHT SHOWERS CAN
BE EXPECTED BEHIND THE FRONT. THICKNESSES WILL DROP CONSIDERABLY
ON THE BACKSIDE OF THE TROUGH. SO...WITH SOME WRAP AROUND MOISTURE
LINGERING...A FEW FLURRIES AREN/T OUT OF THE QUESTION. THE PROBLEM
IS TIMING OF THE FRONT APPEARS TO BE TOO EARLY ATTM IN THE DAY AND
