I Imagine wilma at her peak (which was not observed by recon) could have had gusts well into 200++. wilma's pressure gradient when recon left was very steep. being that wilma's eye was essentially a extremely large tornado in diameter (2-4 miles at its most intense), and convection was some of the most intense i have seen, I believe it could have had some gust up to the 250's. but we will never know.

That is so unfortunate! Does anyone know if any of the new weather satellite's have the technology to measure winds like this? Of course the same could be said about several different storms over the last several decades(Camille being one imo), It is unfortunate we do not have the technology or the network of "indestructible"(yes I am dreaming)anemometers every few miles along the coasts of all areas which have landfalling Hurricanes to make these measurements.
Your logic makes sense to me re:Wilma Aric.
