The Point was, I was just thinking about the 2001 Lake Effect Snowstorm, at Montague, NY, 127" of snow........ ( I was not there, Of Course. But My Dad'a friend lives near there, said over 100" of snow)

I remember that quite well. We "only" got about 40 inches from that particular storm, but Montague got hammered. More than 10 feet of snow in less than a week...

Here at 370 highway and 168th Street in extreme SW Omaha, we've picked up 58.5" this season -- quite a bit more than Valley and Eppley. It seems as we had the heaviest snow track right over us a few times which was probably helped by orographics.

lol trust me I know how that is.....I have measured 39.2" but Detroit Metro Airport, only 17 miles away from me, officially only has 24.1" (norm is 40-44"). That 24.1" seems to be especially low though, and they are just FAA contractors measuring the snow, not NWS employees.

It was a cold winter for sure, but snow didnt hold a candle to 2002-03.

My measurments 39.2" (03-04)...69.0" (02-03) =....-30.0" from last season

Detroit measurments 24.1" (03-04)...60.9" (02-03) =....-36.8" from last season

39.2"...69.0"...that is a -29.8" departure from last season, not -30.0"!

As of 13 April 2004, Syracuse, NY has recorded 181.3" snow.
There was discussion of snow at Montague in a couple posts above.
People forget that Montague, NY recorded 77" in 24 hrs (11-12 Jan'97).
This value would have a record for the greatest 24 hr snowfall in the U.S. which was 76". However, the record was disallowed as the observer made six measurements over the period rather than four measurements. The following is a quote from the NWS evaluation team: "The fact that the committee recommends not to accept the snowfall total as an official climatological record neither diminishes this volunteer's credibility, nor reduces the usefulness of these measurements. In any case, the committee validated the accuracy of the individual observations and found the observer to be exceptionally diligent." 40" of that snow fell in 8 hrs.

Jan, how did you do the Sunday the week before Easter? I was driving through there during that snow and on to Buffalo. The Thruway was so bad in places I wanted to pull over, but the roads were so bad I had to keep going :eek:

My updated seasonal total is 100.5 inches, thanks to that snow.

I got 29 inches this winter. This is low - about 6 - 7 inches below normal for Toledo. The storms missed. I was disappointed by the January 25-26 storm, which only brought 1-2 inches. I can't complain that it didn't snow on Christmas, because it did - about 2 inches. January 4 seemed to have good potential - it turned out to be 3.5 inches. February 6 - it turned out to be 0.5 inch.

Stormraiser,

Syracuse reported a tad over 4" of snow. My daughter plays hoops at SUNY Oswego and it seems every trip to game involved snow at some point on the drive...especially around the Buffalo and Oswego area. There were times when I wanted to get off the thruway but it was snowing so hard I didn't know where I was.

LOL Jan, we probably passed each other. The cars were going single file at 25 miles an hour. YOu couldn't pull over, because there was no where to go. Those little yellow and white signs along both sides were the only assurance that we were still on the highway :eek:

Got another 1/2 inch this morning. 101" This is April?

35.6" Average is roughly 25". Beats last year by 0.6"

Especially when you consider snowfall in southern NC and upstate SC! :eek:

NWS says 25" for Danville and 12" for Lynchburg (you're west of LYH though).... where did you get the DaN and RNK #'s? ROA was on the money..

Richmond still wins the award for biggest screw job IMO... for a 3rd consecutive year........... :oops:
