This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

I just hope when and if the big one heads this way, actually it's a matter of when, that people will take it seriously  We have had many close calls here and people have grown far too complacent. Elena just teased us and that was bad enough

With all these snowbird developments and precarious lot locations down here in sw florida a major would be just that MAJOR...wicked insurance claims and definately deaths...Been along time since real landfall..Andrew's fly by had some good winds but nothing like the storm surge and flooding coming from a gulf monster. With interest rates expected to rise the rebuilding will be difficult and slowww for any victims this year.

Wow... Great post by MW. The luck ran out this year, though sadly, none of these were the big ones. Charley hit a somewhat unpopulated area (as opposed to Tampa), Frances was much weaker, Ivan went west of the Panhandle, and Jeanne was a cat. 3. Florida is still a little lucky, compared to what could have happened. What if Charley hit Tampa Bay as a Cat. 4? What if Frances hit WPB as a Cat. 4? What if Ivan recurved like they said it would and hit near Tampa after being hit by Charley? What if Jeanne hit Jacksonville, an area that hasn't seen a hurricane for a long time? I'm not trying to down play these hurricanes, and Florida has been through hell this year. We are in an active time period for hurricanes. Hopefully Florida will get lucky for another 40 years.

I know that's right!! I just hope it's over! It was nice to have a weekend where there wasn't a storm in the distance, making it's way towards us!
