I have been reading and trying to learn all I can from this board and really appreciate everyone's opinion and hard work. I am now starting to get very concerned. I guess I'm just hoping for the best and this storm will turn and not be a threat to anyone but I'm thinking deep inside that this may not be the case.

This is why the Palm Beach County Department of Public Safety says on their website :
“Plan to evacuate only if absolutely necessary and follow the instructions in the attached information. If you cannot remain safely in your home, plan to stay with family or friends outside of the evacuation zone who do not live in a mobile home.”

That's from http://www.pbcgov.com/pubsafety/eoc/evacuation.htm

From reading the paper in past storms they try to get people to evacuate to safe places locally, not to flee the state.

I'm in an evacuation zone for cat 3 and above. I'm thinking if it would be better to go to mom's house about 40 miles away, or invite myself to my friend Becky's house about 4 blocks away, but not in an evac zone (I wouldn't be if I was across the street) or stay put. It would be mom's if I didn't have animals to contend with. They wouldn't do well with either mom's or Becky's animals, so if I stay with Beck I can leave them here and get back quickly after the storm.
