i do live on the coast of north carolina and I like storms have been in plenty of them in my life time had isabelle last year had berta fran floyd dennis bonnie charlie just to name a few. i can see the water from where i set at work and my husband works right on the beach at the condos i live about 7 mile from the ocean the way the crow flies so yea i do like themand i have been in them but that is what weather watching is all about not sunshine if you want to be a metero you have to like storms why else would you want to be one?

I live in NC. First, I find it hard to believe that you have "experienced" all of the aforementioned storms first hand. By "experienced" I mean that you have suffered loss of property, your livelihood to be precise, or the loss of loved one(s) as a result of their damage. I have endured both.

As someone who has endured both I am going to risk it and say that your post hoping for a major storm in our state is the most asinine post I have ever read here.

I find your supposed "love" for meteorology to be bogus as well. Anyone having the proper healthy respect for weather systems is not going to "wish" them upon areas filled with masses of people for their own personal entertainment. Yes, the forces of nature are interesting to study and awesome in their power but, they are also deadly and anyone who truly loves weather will realize that and hope that they stay away from populations of innocent people.

I find anyone who equates destruction and potential loss of life with "liking meteorology" quite disturbed and an insult to those who really are in awe of nature's forces.

It seems to me as if this is going NOWHERE. I believe those of us that are experienced in tracking storms realikze that anything is possible. Some things are more likely than others. If we listen to NHC, look at models, and then historical data we realize that our friends in Florida are at great risk. Yes, the Carolina's could get a hit. Could it be a bad one, Yes. But right now we should be ensuring, no matter where we live, that we have all preparations complete. In the last couple of days, many severe storms have produced damage, including flooding. These are very distant from landfall. PLEASE concentrate on being ready and getting others ready.

I dont see Ivan coming up here. Possible but unlikely.

I am in Raleigh and we are just now getting the rains from the feeder bands that broke off. Since I moved here a few months ago it seems to run just about every day. Not so much the past week until now but prior to that it rains all the time.

I think Ivan will head towards the gulf and maybe the west coast of FL. Sooner or later Tampa is going to get hit hard. Its a matter of time. I hope not soon since I have family there but its going to happen eventually.

I am not a forecaster. I know chocolate; not weather. I am in awe of these systems, but have great respect for them. I just moved here from the midwest. I don't know hurricanes, but I do know what a Tornado does. Watch the sky turn green as you sit back helplessly caught in a shopping mall with your 2 innocent Shelties at home. Let me tell you, nothing matters at that point besides life and God. I will never forget that storm even though it didn't touch down and everyone was fine.

I sat here in Savannah with my husband and my dogs in the dark of the night with Tornado warnings from the REMAINS of Frances. I am blessed to live in Savannah. I don't have to worry the way Floridians and the islands do. I know Savannah and the Carolinas CAN and has gotten it before. But when you see the beauty-the moss hanging from the trees, the calm riverfront with the great shops, the passion to save historical homes, and the numerous pet friendly squares-well, I have gotten accustomed to this life and hope it lasts as long as possible with not one hurricane (besides my dog who is named Hurricane) visiting.

Maybe you should wish for a heart filled with a little compassion and respect rather than a hurricane. Did it ever occur to you that you should become a forecaster to save people's lives by warning them of imminent danger? Or maybe research a way to give more accurate predictions longer down the road? Or maybe go to the lawmakers begging them to help the elderly find a carpool in an evacuation so families can feel safe about their aging relatives?

Sorry to go off on 1st post. I'm really not mean, but I just can't sit by while someone is that misguided.

Anyhow, I want to take a shot at this prediction thing. Based on my limited knowledge, I say he is unfortunatey headed straight for Utah. Stay safe everyone and thanks for lettig me vent.

This storm is not going to impact the Carolina's in any direct way. It is too far south. It could, however, be a big rain maker down the road for those area's.

I believe the Florida west coast, all the way over to the Mississippi coast are the ones in the line of fire. JMO.
