Tornado Deaths - Panama City Area

News 13 On Your Side
Wednesday, September 15, 2004

A tornado generated by Hurricane Ivan touched down on Panama City Beach on Wednesday afternoon.

One death has been confirmed from this Panama City Beach tornado.

There is also another death reported in the Sandy Creek area of Callaway where two houses were reportedly flattened. Bay County Sheriff's Office has not confirmed this 2nd death.

We will update this article as more news arrives. Check back for additional information.

This was one of several tornados that were spawned by the first significant rain bands from Hurricane Ivan.

POST1
"OK WOW. It got real dark and the tornado went past maybe a mile from our house. My ding dong neighbors are goin to walk to the beach after they say the tornado pass.
It is worse here than predicted.

I guess I'll keep posting as anything happens since it gives me something to do.
Any locals need to tune into WJHG. The news station people actually had to get into the hallway. Somne dove under there desks. 4 homes flattened 1 dead already.
Front beach road, Thomas drive closed. Search and rescues in progress.
Locals tune to wjhg."

POST2

"There is a second death not yet confirmed. Trees down, awnings gone, carports already being blown away. This is all within 4 miles of me or closer.

Only one radio station still on the air. Tv station lost power but back up."

Channel 7 has a reporter on the scene now. Tons of power lines down, buildings damaged in the Captain Anderson's/ Hamiltons restaurant areas.

Possibly another tornado developing near Wewahitchka in lightly populated Gulf County at the 'elbow' of the Big Bend.
