You'll have to excuse me if I'm a little anxious at this point. I still don't have power from the hurricane BEFORE last (Frances)! Even the idea of another storm has me wondering if Nebraska is nice this time of year.

But of course! Didn't you know that all hurricanes this year are heading to Florida?

I certainly did not mean to make light of anyone being anxious about a storm. Since Charlie, I and many others have been extremely anxious at times when it was even mentioned about another hurricane. There was a time when Ivan's long range prediction brought it right to our area. My point is that because of the anxiousness which exists this year, particularly in Florida and now other Gulf States, the "experts" need to rethink the viability of the long range forecasts when all it seems to accomplish is to raise the anxiety level in people.
Maybe someone ought to start a new thread on the idea of whether or not long range forecasts 5 day should even be made public.
Sorry, If I offended anyone, it was not my intent.

They had an article on the news this morning about one of the teams just going in search of ice and food - they found it - just 65 miles north of Mobile. . .
So, for real, if the threat is there or potential exists for a threat to be there - I say stock up. None of what you buy will be wasted the way I look at it. Got plywood for next year if needed or for using as a table in the garage to build things on if you need to, water to drink or cook with - water your plants when they get dry if you have to - canned goods in case you lose electricity from not paying your electric bill - or a transformer blows . . .
We all should have learned by now that it doesn't hurt to be prepared. With the stocks as low as they are right not in the northern gulf coast area and florida - get it when you find it.

Accuweather (bastardi) has had the exact same forecast for the last 4 days. Even as the NHC keeps changing its tune, they are sticking to this central florida/gulf track. I think they are just being stubborn and unwilling to admit they might have been presumtuous. Of course, there has been alot of that around here as well.
The 5pm advisory is so jumbled up, I assume even accuweather will have to revise its thinking. Everyone else has this going out to sea or maybe the Carolinas. I'm not going to lose a minutes sleep on this one at least until monday when the patterns sort themselves out.
Lets all take a deep breath and try to enjoy what should be a beautiful weekend in Florida (at least its looking that way here)

Labor Day was my neighborhoods regular yard waste pick-up day (every other Monday). Frances came instead. So the stuff that was on the curbs got moved a little and added to. The city never made it back before Ivan gave us a brush so now the old stuff plus the Frances stuff plus the Ivan stuff is still on the ground. I can't complain considering how tough most of the rest of the state has gotten it this year but I'm not picking up branches again until Thanksgiving!
