I was like, "What the? Jack? Patch? Kayla? Frankie??? I thought they were all long gone." At least it's a different Billie.

So, let me get this straight. Jack and Patch just came back "from the dead" and back into their wives' lives. Sami is now with Austin and Carrie is with Lucas, instead of Sami & Lucas and Carrie & Austin. Bo is no longer calling Hope "FancyFace" because darn Billie is still in the picture. Lexie and Abe stayed together this far, but now trouble is brewing because Lexie did the deed with some new guy who I don't know very well. Shawn-Douglas finally escaped (last time I saw him he had been kidnapped and held as some obsessed chick's love slave). Chris is now Roman and Roman is now John. Yeah, yeah, I know that's been going on for a while, but I'm still bugged by the whole first-I'm-Roman-then-I'm-John-then-I'm-Roman-then-I'm-John-again thing for Drake Hogestyn.

Well, at least Sami is still female, they're no longer stuck on an island, and Marlena isn't possessed (but is she even alive?).

You are killing me here Duckie!!! What a hilarious take on Days, OMG I cannot stop laughing. I'm seriously gonna lose it here.

I cannot for the life get over the fact that the actor playing Roman was once Chris. Chris was like the Sam Malone of Cheers on Days - everyone and I mean everyone knew who Chris was! And didn't he have a crush on Marlena waaaaaaaay back then too? She was either dating or married to Don too. Wells anyways........when I heard they hired him to be the new Roman b/c the old Roman didn't want the part I was shocked!

It's so dang hard to keep them all straight.

But way back when I swear I lived thru Days, Dallas, Knots Landing - the Ewings, Brady's, Fairgates were just like family!!!

I might even tune in tomorrow - gasp! And you all waited months for today's show. I'll tune in and everything will be at a snail's pace again.

Here's what annoys me about soaps - when someone is about to make an absurd statement - we're thru, you're not the father, I'm not cheating, I'm not crazy, you're the crazy one - this person walks away from the other to face the camera, while the other character is in the background. Then you see another character hovering......over and over again. Okay, now you all know I've lost it. But in real life - who has conversations like this - over their shoulder? LOL

Forgot to ask - Roman is now John? Where's John? Shows like this prompt others to pick up a good book instead!!!

Oh I loved all of these Days couples - Kim and Shane (when he carried her up the spiral staircase to uh hum, you know), Marlena and Roman (when he slept on her living room floor in a sleeping bag to protect her from the Salem strangler, Bo and Hope, Jack and Jen (how he resisted her for months!), on and on.

Not sure where John is now. But remember a really l-o-n-g time ago, Roman (as played by Wayne Northrop) died. Then, there was a big to-do in the soap gossip magazines about Roman coming back to DOOL. But it wasn't with WN in the role. Instead, Drake Hogestyn stepped in. He "met" Marlena at some community center where she was counseling. She asked if she could help him and introduced herself. He had amnesia or something (although we knew who he was...or was supposed to be, at least, until all the recent craziness happened to change all that). Since he couldn't remember his name (or maybe, didn't want to say who he was yet), he looked behind her to a plaque on the wall and picked the name "John Black" from the list of financial donors. Of course, later, through some weird crap with Stefano, "John" learned that he was really Roman. So, then...yay, happy day...Marlena was back with Roman. Well, then years later, Wayne Northrop comes back and they write him back in as Roman and decide that DH's "Roman" is an imposter. So, then he has to find out his true identity...or maybe he knew it all along? I don't remember. But, anyway, then we find out that, lo and behold, his real name is John Black. So, we're supposed to believe it was just a fluke that he pulled that name off some list when he didn't know who he was and then it turns out that's really his name?

Somewhere in there things got really weird and WN became Alex, who was Marlena's first husband. And Sami doesn't like that and only wants to see her mom with Roman, who is now played by Josh Taylor, who I still see as "Chris." And I'm guessing Drake Hogestyn is still John. I'm surprised Sami hasn't lost her mind since three different men have been her "father" and yet those same men are still in her life -- same faces, only with different names now. Oh, wait...too late. She's related to Marlena. She probably will lose her mind somewhere in the future. Or die...and come back to life. Or get amnesia and forget how evil she is and turn into some little angel. Or find out she's really Lucas' sister or daughter or goodness knows what else.

Heck, it's enough to make a fan...or ex-fan, in this case...lose one's mind also!

I'll scream if they bring back Mike Horton, or Curtis Reed to torment Billie, or Glenn to try to win back Jennifer. But I'll gladly tune in if Shane comes back and brings Kimberly, Eve, and/or Emma.

I had to laugh at your second paragraph - "somewhere in there things got really weird...." - and they hadn't before? LOL

You remember more than I do! I didn't know John Black's real name was John Black. I think the writers know fans love these actors and want to keep them around, so they keep reinventing the storyline - Chris, you're not Chris, you're Roman now.....

Maybe this is why I don't watch anymore - it's too crazy!!!!

Remember a soap called Ryan's Hope? It didn't quite feel like a soap until the exwife of one brother married another brother to stay in the family b/c she didn't want to leave the family when the first husband divorced her. LOL But it had a nice family feel for a while, similar to how the Brady's and Horton's felt to me (20 odd years ago), before all this charcter/actor/name switching started. Remember Neal and Liz on Days? Doug and Julie? This is what Days stood for - strong family ties and super couples.

I knew of Ryan's Hope, but I didn't watch it.

The first soap I got hooked on was As The World Turns. There was this cute little blonde character named Betsy Montgomery, who was married to a jerk and thief named Craig but she was madly in love with Steve Andropolous. Craig had framed Steve for a coin theft around the time I started watching. Sometime later, ATWT killed off Betsy so the actress could do bigger and better things with her life. A friend of mine said, "Well, there goes your show and you'll never see *her* again." I said, "Nah, she's a good actress. I'm sure she'll go far." The actress -- Meg Ryan! Later, they brought Betsy back to life, in the form of Lindsay Frost, who was, IMHO, a good replacement. I like to watch anything that stars either actress now. Frost doesn't have the fame that Ryan has. But she's got a lot of the same acting range...just hasn't had the same chance in the spotlight yet.

I first really got into DOOL during my freshmen year in college. I remember that was back when the Jenn/Glenn relationship was going on. They were such a Ken/Barbie looking couple. For the life of me, I can't recall who Mike Horton dated back then, but they were one of *the* couples for that show. I'd look it up, but I'm gonna rack my brain a little longer just to see if I can grab it from within the depths of my gray matter first.

And, yup, I remember Doug and Julie and Neal and Liz. Gloria Loring...what was that song she sang, written by Alan Thicke?

Argh...two things to sleep on tonight. Gotta love trivia!

Edit -- Daggonit! Just as I hit the submit button, I got it -- Robin! That's who Mike's major relationship was with back in the late 80's.

Well, one down...one to go. G'night for now! :)

I suspected you were talking about Meg Ryan and I was right! She was adorable in that role.

My first soap was Dark Shadows. Friends in my neighborhood would gather in someone's living room to watch, you'd walk in the room and be shushed, immediately. I got hooked of course. My mom was so worried I had gone over to the dark side. Her beloved Catholic daughter - named after Mother Mary to boot - was watching a show about a vampire! LOL

I bounced thru soaps a lot, watching All My Children (watching Jenny die), Ryan's Hope, One Life to Live, General Hospital (Luke and Laura's wedding - 'nuff said!), Another World, Somerset, and finally, Days. A coworker said - if you like Luke and Laura, you should watch Days. Lots of couples on that show. I got hooked on Days, like no other. Sobbing when Roman "died" in Bo's arms. Similar to how I took Bobby Ewing's "death" on Dallas.....FYI......no one dies on a soap! They disappear but they do not die.....he he

And now I no longer watch any of them! Until yesterday, while counting coins.....

Will I go back? Probably not. The pace I see is still very slow. Probably wouldn't hold my interest enough but would attract me are the numerous message boards and websites about them. Back then all I had was a phone - with a cord! To discuss that day's show.....

Good time, good times. When I quit my job, one coworker gave me a necklace with a charm that said - I heart soaps! I still have it too.

apparently the john/marlena thing is on a break for the summer. they'll be back in August or so. between billie, sami, and belle, i'd go postal in that town. what a marvy idea? another mass murderer to get rid of the meddling women or have them beamed up and abducted by space aliens or something...

rumors are the head writer is being replaced soon...

i cant imagine bo and hope breaking up. they're the quintessential happy couple! cant these shows at least leave one marriage alone? the dying jack thing is gettin gold. and what awful timing to show up at his wife's wedding to the guy he set her up with in the first place!

Whoa! I'd have never guessed you to be a soap watcher, Alicia! I took you more for the herbal tea-drinking literature-loving type (and I mean that as a compliment, k?).

i thought other Days fans might like to know that Matt Cedeno (who played Brandon Walker) stars in a very funny movie on the Oxygen channel called Romancing the Bride. Wow, is he hot... much better looking than on Days and without so many clothes.

Every time I tune in after a vacation away from DOOL for months, I tell myself, "You're gonna regret it." And every time, sure enough, I end up asking myself, "Why? Why did you tune in?"

It's inevitable. Almost everytime I check out Days, I catch someone (usually Marlena) saying, "It's you!" as someone from the past re-emerges. The previews for tomorrow's show have her saying that exact statement to someone. Apparently, she and John were flying to Ottawa to get some serum for Kayla, who is dying. Something happened that caused Marlena to jump out of the plane. (Honestly, who jumps out of a plane without a chute??) So, now she's laying out in the snow-covered wilderness and whoever "you" is finds her.

So, has Tony been gone for a while? Or Victor? Or some other bad guy from the past? Mary, you liked Tony, right? Could it be him returning?
