My name is Luis.I am a hurricane fanatic since I was 5 years old by looking at the cloud movements and directions and much more interested in tropical weather over 30 years ago so you can figure out that I am one of the most oldest persons at this board.
What got me addicted to tropical weather the most was when in 1975 Tropical Storm Eloise came here and dumped over 20.00 inches of rain with massive floodings.Of course after I got my computer then the internet went to the maximun. My experiences in terms of landfalls so far in my lifetime haved been Hurricane Dora=1960,Tropical Storm Eloise=1975,Tropical Storm Federic=1979,Hurricane Hugo=1989,Hurricane Hortense=1996,Hurricane George=1998 and Tropical Storm Jeanee=2004.As you can see a lot of experience seeing these landfalling systems which are not good after they go away and I dont want anyone to suffer the aftermath such as no power for over 2 weeks,no water for over 2 weeks,Looooong lines to get ice ands many more bad things that occur after landfalling systems.

Hi. I'm 30 years old and live almost right on the gulf. I became hooked on hurricanes when I was about 12 years old. Juan was about to hit and I stood outside while we packed up and noticed how queit and still the air seemed, and after it passed the air just smelled so clean like the rain had cleaned the atmospere. I majored in Broadcast jounalism which I love, but have taken courses in metorology and geology these are my passions. I could not major in either one because they do not have full programs at my college, and I could not move because I have 2 children.

It looks like this is becoming a contest to see who the oldest poster is here
I think, if I admitted my age, I would beat you all.
I have been livng in the Caribbean for 30 years .
I have always been interetsed in weather but living through so many hurricanes down here has made me somehwat obsessed about weather in general and hurricanes in particular.

Hi. My name is Trish and I am 28 years old. Most of you have seen me on the board during hurricane season. For those who don't, I live in a very tiny town called Schriever. It is located 60 miles to the southwest of New Orleans. Or for those more familiar with Louisiana, (smack in the middle of Houma and Thibodaux.) I always have been fasinated with weather mostly hurricanes. My fasination grew when I rode out Hurricane Andrew as a junior in high school. And hearing all my parents hurricane Betsy stories while growing up. Right now, I am working at a dead end job at the mall at Sears in the shoe dept. My dream is to be a hurricane chaser or somebody reporting when the hurricanes are happening. You know the like Stephanie Abrams from the weather channel who goes out in their slicker suit and holds on the pole for dear life. I just don't have the money for meterology school and would never make it through the math part.

Hi All! I know very little about weather, but I am a freak about tropical weather. I have been since Alicia hit in 1983 and I was only 5 years old. Since the weather channel and local news just say the same thing over and over, I got online to seek out a better source of info and found it here! I want to thank all the mets who post, I have learned quite a bit from you guys.
Please pardon my ignorance, should it show.

I'm Jan Rooth, I'm 44. I've been fascinated with tropical weather since my family moved down to Miami in 1967, when my dad was lured down here from WHOI to help build up what was then the Marine and Atmospheric Sciences Lab but within a year or so became Rosensteil School.
My professional career went a different way (computer science) but I've got a pretty strong layman's knowledge of climate science and ocean dynamics by virtue of many long discussion with my father and many of his colleagues over the years, and by dint of my own independent studies.
I stumbled over Storm2k last August (thank you, Google!) while seeking more in-depth information than I was getting from Accuweather Pro and the other well-known weather sites.

Hey all.... My name is Larry. I'm 35 married with 3 boys. I used to be a manager for a florida grocery chain untill recently became disabled due to heart problems. Beleive it or not got interested in weather when I was very young. See I used to hunt down florida snakes , and sell them, and there are certain times of day , with certain times of weather I have found out when it is the best time for them to be out .So that got me always watching for the right weather. Weird huh?

Well, my name is James, I am 17 and I am a student. I have always been fascinated by the weather and tropical cyclones have always held a particular interest for me. While my knowledge is vastly inferior to that of a lot of people on this site, I kinda know some stuff, lol.
I've been tracking Atlantic hurricanes since I was 10 in 1998, and storms from other basins since I was 12. It seems to have gone really fast.

I'm a 29-year-old small business owner in Sarasota, FL. I'm a graduate of Georgia Tech, or a "G T Alum" hence my odd handle. My interest in severe weather took a distinct upturn last summer. Until then I was pretty complacent about it. I found S2K to be an incredibly fascinating treasure trove of weather information, and I admire all the meteorologists both professional and amateur who post their forecasts here.

Hey all! I'm a 28 (29 in Aug) yr. old in Homestead. Watching the storms and other weather is definitely just a hobby for me. I am guilty of becoming active on this board only during 'cane season just because, well, we don't really have much else going on here weather-wise the rest of the year LOL Anyway - glad to meet y'all and looking forward to all of the "when is it turning, where is it going, here's what my weather people say" posts we'll be sharing over the next 6 months

Hurricane Elena did it for me, in 1985 along the Florida gulf coast. And the infamous twin Palm Sunday tornadoes in 1965 in Indiana -- which I, obviously, survived.
In my heart I'm forever 25 and holding
Writing about and observing/talking tropics is my passion and I'm fortunate to have an outlet via newspapers and magazines, combining hobby and work.
I find that weather folks are among the nicest and smartest I've met online -- or anywhere, for that matter.

Hi, Valerie here. I am 38 yrs old and joined this board right before Charley (did I spell that right?) hit us last year. I am not knowledgable AT ALL about weather! I was just looking for somewhere other than the local news to get all the info, and this board always seems to hit it right on the nose!!! I really like the atmosphere (no pun intended) here! Everyone was genuinely concerned for everyone else's welfare before, during, and after all the storms....
Looking forward to another season with everyone!

I'm 20 and a meteorology student at the University of Reading. I've had an interest in tropical cyclones for a few years but I only started following them properly around the time Charley made landfall last year. Other meteorology interests include tornadoes (You may have guessed that from my logo though
