ZION, Ill. A recently released Texas prison inmate is the father of one of the two girls found slain in a park in Zion, Illinois.

The bodies of eight-year-old Laura Hobbs and nine-year-old Krystal Tobias were discovered yesterday by Jerry Hobbs. Both children had been stabbed.

Jerry Hobbs, who was released from prison April 12th, has been questioned in the deaths.

Wichita County, Texas, Assistant District Attorney Rick Mahler said Hobbs was arrested on August fourth of 2001 after arguing with Sheila Hollabaugh in a trailer park.

Authorities say Hobbs grabbed a chainsaw and began chasing other residents.

Nobody was hurt. Someone subdued Hobbs by hitting him with a shovel.

Hobbs was convicted of aggravated assault and sentenced to ten years probation, but he failed to appear for his required meetings.

His probation was revoked in 2003.

The father of Laura Hobbs has been charged with the murders of his 8-year-old daughter and her best friend Krystal Tobias, 9, prosecutors said Tuesday. Jerry Hobbs, 34, could face the death penalty if convicted. The girls were reported missing on Mother's Day and their bodies found in a wooded park Monday.
