Car crashes into DeSoto day care (Updated)
By MICHAEL REY / WFAA ABC 8
DeSOTO, Texas — A car crashed into a building housing a day-care center in DeSoto Friday morning, but no one was hurt.
Police said the accident took place at DeSoto Private School, 301 East Beltline Road. A woman hit the accelerator after dropping her grandson off for school, mistakenly believing the transmission was in reverse.
The car instead lurched forward into the building before she could react. It crashed into a storage area where there were no students.
"We'd much rather lose a car than lose a valuable life or injury," said Lee Larson, the school's first- and second-grade principal. "I think any time accidents can happen. That's why we take precautions with the school bus, we park in certain areas, we have certain sections we designate faculty parking to act as shields."
The unidentified driver was said to be shaken up, but unhurt.
Friday's incident in DeSoto is eerily similar to a crash on Tuesday, when a 14-year-old driver slammed into a crowded day-care center in southeast Dallas. Eight young people were hurt.
