I read this book also; it's a great (but horrific) story. My wife grew up in South Bay (right on the southern tip of the lake, and I had heard so much about this storm that I went out and bought the book to learn what I could about it.
It was a disaster when the levees broke, and although it's a different situation, it drives home the problems with New Orleans' location and vulnerable levees.
