I remember going through some serious withdrawl last year after Hurricane Frances. Our power was out for about 10 days and I didn't have a generator, and most of my family was out as well. I stayed late at work during the days just to get my storm 2k fix! Any other day, I am out of there as fast as I can.

OMG that is my 3 and 4 year old! They love the NOAA weather channel!
Believe it or not when my kids we 1 and 2 I would put them in front of the tv and put on TWC or a news channel and they would love it.I think they actually thought that the people were talking to them....good short term babysitter.

When I was little (say 5-7 years old) and my family would visit my Grandparents and I were left control of the TV it would inevitably be changed to the Weather Channel and it would stay there. My grandparents thought it was because I liked the pretty colors; my mom, on the other hand thought there was something more to it...she was right, I think.

All of these were me over the weekend:
1. The very first thing you do after waking up(before eating, before getting something to drink, before even getting dressed, you check to see what's going on with the storm).
Same goes for the very last thing. You literally check the storms 30 seconds before you go to sleep to make sure you don't miss anything.
2. You feel more intimate with the storm than you do your family.
3. You'd rather talk about the storm than anything else(including girls
)
This morning:
You go nuts when the only way you can get the latest on TD 5 is via THE WEATHER CHANNEL.
Such a shame... a decade ago, they were the ONLY source, now they suck.

My wife several times has try to ban me from this site...Last week she told me I need to spend time away from the computer...I told her I agree and from now on I would only go onto S2K site when the NHC updates the storm and I would only stay on 5-10 minutes max..She said they update every 6 hours right. I said no every 30 minutes....

I'm laughing my sides off. All of you could be me. Getting up in the middle of the night to check out s2k-just in case. Just before Christmas I bought an XM radio to monitor the storms if we lost electricty and the generator was busy with other appliances! Then I bought a car with XM-yup, for the weather channel!
When we spend two weeks every year in St. Maarten in August and September I run from internet cafe to internet cafe because neither of our condos have TWC. The best we can hope for is that the satellite is picking up a Miami or NC channel. We mostly eat in restaurants that will put the weather channel on for us.
And finally, at work, the first question I get every morning is what is this storm doing? My boss even called from Alaska to get the "official" Dennis updates.
Nah, I'm not addicted-just interested!

When people at my work want to know what is going on they just call me instead of taking the time to look it up on the internet! I was about to die with not sat pictures, no websites, no tv, no hurricanetrack.com, no storm2K, ...it was rough!
It was so bad at one point that I had to get in my car and drive miles to the nearest Walmart that had it on their televisions.....is that addicted or what?
Hi all I am new to this forum, but I have always LOVED weather, earth sciences, etc. I am so addicted to tropical weather info. and seeing how things progress, what affects what, etc. I don't think this site will help my addiction at all, but who cares!![]()
I look forward to reading all of the posts! Thanks.
Hey, welcome Scorpdream!
You say Northwest MS. You didn't go to Tunica did you? I heard on the local stations that many people stayed there. You did say a campground though so I would guess not. What one channel were you limited to? I know I would have hated it.
And yes, I am addicted by all means. I went crazy yesterday when I had to leave yesterday for a while just after Dennis's landfall. And you should see me during severe weather in these parts!
I hope you enjoy your stay.

You know your a weather weenie when, as a kid, you lived in the country with no cable (it was the 80's)...and all you had was a weather radio and the local news at 5, 6 and 10. Well, in order to get information on hurricanes, I had to listen to my weather radio during the morning and early afternoon (so I could hear the tropical weather outlook). The only problem is I lived out in the country and was right at the limit of the NWS (in Alvin, TX back then) range. So...in order to hear it I had to climb a tree and twist around at the top until it came in. I'd do that 2 or 3 times a day in the summer.
I drove my cousin's nuts because they had the weather channel...and when I'd go visit...I'd spend a good hour in their room watching it.

LOL, when my dad bought a portable scanner that had a very good antenna on it, I would run around the house trying to find signals of nearby weather radio stations. Normally, I only get the one station, Memphis, but I could pick 'em up from Little Rock, Jackson MS, Nashville, Birmingham, Paducah, and Springfield NWS offices with the scanner. I'd always have to do it in the morning though and in clear weather, thats when they came in the best.
