Horrible: sex offender moving near me!
Moderator: S2k Moderators
Btw, Harrison County sure has a lot of "touching a child for lustful purposes" registrants. Scary. That's quite a long list. I found a couple of sexual batterers/rapists (some with more than 2 counts). I'd be wary of those types. Then there are some grampa types in their 70's. Shame on them. I got through the C's, and there was only one "unnatural intercourse" type person. While it's the minority, that's kind of the point of checking things out to be sure. A gay dude convicted of "unnatural intercourse" is different than a rapist or child molester.

I went to the Mississippi State Police website and did a search by name but he is not on the list. He was convicted of: criminal sexual conduct fourth degree victim between 13-16. Didn't say if the victim was male of female. The age of the perp is 22 and the crime was committed in 2000. I looks like he may have been 18 and had a young girlfriend. If this is the case than I am not as concerned as if it had been the more typical sicko. Personally, I don't think an 18yo boy should be locked up for have a 15yo girlfriend. Heck, my husbands mother was 14 when she got married and her husband was 20. This was Ok back 60 years ago but now is a crime which just ain't right.....MGC

kmanwx was making a point. Compared to a grown man molesting/raping say a 10 year old girl, two teenagers having sex is not as bad. Do you honestly think they are?

Oh for crying out loud! You have read the thread and know full well what point was trying to be made. No one was advocating sex between teenagers or anything else. They were tossing these things up in order to show that there is a big difference between crimes. But I shouldn't have to tell you that, you know it already.
You are just choosing to take one statement, out of context I might add, and not using it accompanied by the post to which it was replying to. While taking each statement individually without being presented with the entire thread would appear to support your observation, you, I, and the rest of the posters know that is not the case. Give it a rest!

Mississippi's Sex Offender Registry is not terribly up-to-date, I don't think. These registries are only as good as the information given them by the offenders.
And regarding 15 and 16-year-old sexual activity as ludicrous...try telling that to the 12-year-olds who have more sex than some adults. Things have changed.

Being vigilant is not a bad thing. Being aware that a convicted offender lives in your area is a good thing...and it allows you to structure your concerns around that notification.
I remember that when Mike Tyson purchased a home about six miles southwest of mine, that his neighborhood was notified and there was a newspaper article about the process.
When my son, daughter in law, and first granddaughter lived in San Diego, they were less than two miles from convicted child rapist and killer David Westerfield's home. When they checked the website, they realized there was another convicted sex offender in their neighborhood...and knowing who he was, where he lived, and some information about his crime was a good thing.
I have three registered offenders now living within ten minutes of our home right now according to the update. All are in rental housing. I don't know if the rental housing places have notified neighbors or not, but the information is available.
Most sex offenders are family members or people known and trusted by the family. Over the years I have become aware of some of the stories and ugly truths not too far from the nests of those I care about or know. We just learned this past month of a long time friend back in Illinois who admitted to such behavior.
Registry and notification is a good thing...but we can't be naive to the realities that there are surely more unreported incidents than there are registered ones.
Be smart as adults....whether for the sake of your kids or yourselves.

Alot of times the list doesn't work any way...That guy that took Jessica Lynch was staying at his relatives house while registered in another county...He took her from the house kept her in a closet for a couple days doing god knows what then buried her alive...Why does this guy even deserve a trial...Why was he even out roaming around. We need better laws against this..If you don't think there isn't one roaming somewhere in you hood your insane...This is a general statement I don't mean you HurryKane...

Maturity isn't the issue -- of course they're not mature enough. But you'd better be ready to label about 3/4 of the high school students in this country as sex offenders. An 18 yo with a 15 yo is not that uncommon today, and I am not willing to brand an 18 year old kid as a sex offender for life if that's his only offense.
