Bernie Shaw and Judy Woodruff were the BEST though. I grew up watching them.

I miss them

>>That is because you are so used to hearing one sided news for so long. Then along comes Fox giving you fair and balanced and BOOM you think they are one sided.

Uh, not exactly. Fox isn't fair and balanced in the least. That's called a slogan. Their London bureau chief came right out and said that about 3 weeks ago.

The reason mainstream news seems so one-sided to so-called conservatives is because of the players involved. In our latter day history (from Nixon through now), the most secret and closed White Houses have been Republican - Nixon, Reagan, GHWB and W. Because of their reluctance to run open government, they often find themselves in opposition to journalists, most of whom are educated and tend toward liberal thinking (which for anyone who doesn't know, liberalism as a philosophy is the basis for what we in America call modern conservatism - low taxes, individual liberties, voice for the merchant/middle classes etc.). Yeah I said it, conservatism is steeped in classical liberalism. Conservatism itself was simply a retention of power by the haves and always was. The U.K. gave us both philosophies, so if this comes as a shock to anyone, I'd recommend you research and find out the truth for yourself.

But anyway, the general underhandedness of modern Republican presidents and their insiders who sought to change the status quo by returning the power to the haves (and yes, this is also a fact that you may also wish to research if you don't know any better) often by slippery means has usually put them at odds with journalists. It doesn't help matters that guys like Cronkite and Rather were more or less talking mouths for the democratic party the way Rush Limbaugh is for the republican party. And they both got caught with their pants down enough for me to distrust them as much as I do Rush. These guys have agendas.

Anyway, in modern McAmerica, people are basically tuning into the news they want to hear or have been conditioned to believe delivers /their side of the story/. If someone on the far right says CNN isn't giving the whole story, they think they're going to get it from Fox and vice versa. That's laziness on the part of Americans and most likely why so many Americans have allowed blowhards on the right and left to define their ideologies for them. Partisan b.s. once again comes shining through. And the parties themselves don't necessarily follow the ideologies ascribed to them. Both are big government insitutions in existence to perpetuate themselves by demonizing the other guy when they only differ on some of the really fine points of a debate. The Democrats have been tax and spend and grow government to new levels. The Republicans have been borrow and spend (taxation annually by increasing the interest payments on the national debt) and grow government to extreme levels.

Anyway, some of you might get the impression I find the 2-party system and the majority of its followers to be shallow. :)

A topic about better hurricane coverage on a certain network turning now into a political debate so to say...with there not being a political forum anymore...probably should just keep this topic on hurricane coverage.
