Steve is really good, but it would be nice to be able to hear what Reader has to say, since he's on the coast.
Wish we had cable out here.

Well, you know 'dem good ol' boys up in your neck of the woods don't need no stinking cable!! Seriously, though, take time to love the "country" while you can - soon enough it'll be cable, condos, high-rises, tons of traffic, and congestion everywhere. I remember when we didn't have cable here on the coast. Think I liked it better then...

Even after all the loops, turns, and twists, he stayed true to his steadiness and let the chips fall when they may. But, it was still fun watching him try to get a grasp on things that evening!! Plus, he flew several missions with the Hurricane Hunters during his 20-year stint as a forecaster with the Navy. He knows his stuff about the tropics.

Don't forget how well he did with Georges.

Good Point!!

The point ????? He missed it entirely!!!!!!!!!! He kept saying Georges was going to New Orleans, Georges was going to ......GOING to New Orleans............hunkered down in their little safe room after damage to the station he was STILL saying Georges is going to New Orleans.........well I got a Bridge to sell him too! So even though Georges was going to New Orleans, I had a tree on my house, 2 feet of water inside and 5 1/2 foot of water outside by the trash line on the boards on the windows and brick. OH and I can't not mention the 24' X 30' section of the City of Pascagoula Beach Park Pier in my neighbors front yard.

I have no faith in Mike Reader or Carrie Duncan and have started watching my weather on WKRG 5 out of Mobile and Fox 10 out of Mobile..........if Reader and Duncan would care to move their behinds out of the way of Jackson County and act as though we were part of their viewing audience I might (I doubt it) change my mind. When hearing Carrie Duncan state during Dennis's approach when they were still saying the MS/AL state line/Mobile Bay that "we" shouldn't get anything out of this.....welll hello...........were do you think Pascagoula is other than the MS/AL line? Go figure.

And sorry, to the real intent of the thread...I didn't hear what they said on the weather today.

Well, I disagree MSRobi. I remember him saying that Georges was not going to go into New Orleans and to hunker down. I suffered damage too and I was prepared for the worst.

sorry. i missed the evening news between family duties, exercise class, and garden stuff. however, in answer to which tv met i watch: we switch between alan sealls and david glenn. i'm not a big john edd fan. as for the "back-up" mets: i guess i'd have to go with jere hough and john nodar. jim loznicka likes to make a thunderstorm out of some guy spitting in his garden!

Now that you mention it, MSrobi, they do tend to "block" JC. Of course, they are both rather.... Uhm.... Err.....

Anyway, I agree with your review of Reader earlier on in Georges' approach. But, at least several hours out, I do recall him setting his sights on the Jackson County area for the NE quad. I'm pretty sure, though, he didn't forcast how long Georges was gonna hang around and keep pounding y'all over on that side.

John Edd Thompson does not have clue about the tropics. His day has past him bye about 15 years ago.. Listen to the other local mets and then listen to him, he does not have a clue people. Just sit back and listen to what he is saying. Now Jason Smith is sharp in the mornings on Fox 10 and I watch him regularly, but not John EDD. The other day he was showing a water Vapor Image and said it shows how much water is in the GOM.

Dont get me Started on Reader....I'm Listening to him NOW!...WKRG-Mobile was the FIRST to call Georges! Coming to Miss. A FULL hr. BEFORE WLOX!.....It wasnt till Geroges Crossed Horn Island BEFORE Mike made the infamous Quote " Well folks it looks like South Miss. Is going to take the Brunt of this storm" I was in pascagoula....watching All the Local Mets ...I had ALREADY lost power and was on Generator. Dont get me wrong Mike is a great Met and has alot of REAL forecasting expirience (NWS-Military) But I talked to him Face to face about Georges in 2000 and he told me He Wasnt making the CALL(L/F change) until the NWS/NHC OFFICIALY changed the Direction of the Storm to N ...He said (And I remember) in his earlier days at Wlox he had Full reign to speak his mind but in recent years the sation Mgt Has Locked that down? Why Liabilty? Who knows but he will FREELY tell you They-wlox ONLY give out OFFICIAL info.! Now all that said I like Mike and he Does a Great Job...Good on camera Presence...Good family man, father and Grand father! So dont think I'm bashing him...Best thing about Reader is unlike some other Local AND national Mets HE DOESNT HYPE! PERIOD!....Sad Fact is Most of the local stations dont have the Older Mets left Like ,Frank, Nash, ect. I still cant get over Me being in Disney world amoung thousands of people when Arlene was threatning Mississippi and Getting on the Tram and Guess who was there !....MIKE! :D He was Pi$$ed Cause he was having to Fly home 1 day early!...I dont Blame him...we got worse weather around here in T-Storms!

True! BUT as I said in my post above He did NOT CALL IT until NHC/NWS called it! Which that close to land Radar Clearly showed MVT. Thats what WKRG was using...And NHC/NWS was giving 30 min updates So Reader/ Wlox wasnt too far Behind Wkrg!...Overall it was handeled well by all And the Final track was WELL with the NHC's margin of Error..I agree The shift Certainly put Pascagoula From Hurricane force winds to the EYEWALL and we were ready! Because of ALL the Mets and News coverage then!

To do all the 2nd guessing! :D Wish it would have been around for Georges!

David Glenn is the one to watch. Years ago it was Ned Perme, the one that got me interested in Meteorology to begin with.

No big deal Linda....we were already at the ADC and lost power about 4:30 that afternoon which was way early because a tornado hit the WLOX office on Market Street in Pascagoula and knocked out the power. We had generators and 1 TV and I remember him so clearly.......and rtd2 and ixolib your right...he did make the call after it passed Horn Island...a little late in the ball game...but...oh well...

We had boarded up and taken care of things....but the estimated 6-8 foot storm surge was not the actually 14 foot..I think it was that we got....hence the flooding. And yes, I know, I choose to live here and take the chance and I know no one knows where a hurricane is going to go ashore until it actually does..i.e. Elena...and we all on the MS Coast know about her.

Well, I'll agree on Carrie Duncan. I've come to the conclusion that she simply is not interested in TCs. She obviously doesn't bother herself to keep up with even current storm advisorie and doesn't have even the most elementary understanding of what moves these systems. I've heard her explain to the viewing audience that a high pressure system 1,500 miles to the north was going to "draw" a TC around 11N to it and turn it out to sea.
