Anyone think sarasota/tampa area will get a hurricane ...

2 not direct storms last year knocked out my power in tampa, and charley was supposed to hit but hit my friends and family in port charlotte instead. This really was a serious question..i guess its silly of me to ask for a prediction. Just thought that the professionals on here could at least answer the question i had of when do the gulf storms start, in what month, and should i keep my eye on the carribean. I also donated to this site as it was something i lived by last year.

It's a serious thread IMO, but Tampa has about the lowest chance of anyone from Brownsville to the Mid-Atlantic states. Hurricanes don't typically move west to east, so your best chance is either from a Charley-like system(more likely late in the season), or something like Frances...

I guess I should move to the Tampa Bay area then considering how rare it is for a major hurricane to thit that area. Got lucky last year with Charley though.

Yes they do... lots of storms have formed in the Gulf.

The most likely place for development AND for that storm to hit the Florida West Coast would be the Northwestern Caribbean around the Cayman Islands. Late in the season, troughs will make the mean steering flow be SSW-NNE or something to that affect forcing the storms into Florida. The same deal happened with Charley, however, that trough was INSANE for August... that was an October-like trough with August waters, a recipe for disaster.
