Does anyone have information about Bouvier in Biloxi? If it's still standing? Thanks.
I heard that they had water up to the 2nd Floor at the Beau Rivage Casino...I don't know exactly how high that is but I've got to believe that it's some very impressive surge and wave heights there...here in Panama City, some 200 miles to the east of the storm we've been getting sustained 35-39mph winds with gusts up to 45-50mph since 9:00 this morning...I know this pales in comparison to what they are experiencing to our west, but it just illustrates the incredible expanse of this storm...

Right idea. People need to realize that storm surge is a rise in water level. So you can have a surge of 10-15ft with 5-7ft wind waves on top of that. That's adds up to as much as 22ft of water.
Actually, you add half the wave height to the surge height, as half the wave is below mean water level since waves are measured from crest to trof (not crest to mean water line).
In any case, it appears to be a great tragedy is unfolding. My mother was able to make it to some stranger's house after their home flooded. She lost everything in Gautier, MS. I fear that once rescue workers can reach the MS coast that they will find thousands dead. There is no high ground there to speak of.

It went thru Camille...I bet it made it thru this one too.
Yes, it's the historic home of Jefferson Davis and once the shelter for veterans of the War Between the States. A beautiful estate. I hope it is ok and can be restored once again.. Thank you.

i'd buy a 20... even 25 or 28 foot surge... but 37 feet? that seems hard to imagine...
There was an official account from (Mississippi state disaster something, I forgot) aired on MSNBC of a 28 foot storm surge on Miss coast.

I don't know how high the surge/waves were, but my cousin evac'd Pascagoula, and went (just barely) farther inland to the Escatawpa area. They never got flooded in Camille he said, but this time they ended up with the water rushing into the house he stayed at. His daughter and ex-wife stayed in Pascagoula (I don't know where at), and so far, they haven't been able to find them, to know if they are okay or not. (this from my Aunt via phone tonight)
So, the surge in the Pascagoula area was higher than Camille anyway.

Latest casino info I've heard:
President Casino is in the parking lot of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum.
Treasure Bay is on top of the Denny's just east of Beauvoir.
Hard Rock superstructure suffered catastrophic damage and will have to be completely rebuilt.
Grand Casino, Biloxi is on Howard Avenue, four blocks north of the beach (guess that's why they couldn't find it).
Only thing standing on Biloxi beach is the Biloxi Lighthouse.
