I hope you are wrong too......but punks such as Kayne West are certainly doing their level best to incite one :(

exactly, i wish the people who want to make this a political or race issue will go down there and say what they are saying to the people dying and on the streets, most of them dont care about that crap, they just want out, and help is there and on the way, they are trying

I understand how he feels, but it was inappropiate to make statement like that at this fundraiser. Politics or personal opinions should be left out.

As shocked as I was, I can also understand the pain. We all feel it. It just hurts deeply and there is much anger.

This is just the beginning guys, it's going to get nasty. I wish it wouldn't, but for those who don't live down here and/or know exactly what the situation is/was they're going to think it's all a race issue.

Actually I'm not sure and I may be mistaken but I believe Kayne West raps about Jesus.

Can anyone confirm this?

I have a friend down here who is postulating the racist angle.

I was with Air Rescue in the USAF and I can tell you we didn't give a ....
what the human looked like when we plucked it out of the ocean. It cause most of the time they were fried from floating out there for days.

I cannot believe this is escalating into a race war.

Let's not blame NBC now. If you noticed, he was with Mike Myers after one of the musical performances. Mike talked, obviously reading off the teleprompter as the rest had, then Kanye started speaking and rambling. MM looked uncomfortable and it was clear Kanye wasn't reading what he was supposed. Then it was Mike's turn again...he talked. Then back to Kanye. The second time was when Kanye made the comment about Bush not liking black people. The second he said that, they zipped the cameras off him and went to Chris Rock in the background. CR either read something he was supposed to or may have read what Kanye was supposed to. Either way, NBC wouldn't have it and nipped it as soon as possible. It went longer than it probably should have, but I imagine they had to scurry Chris Rock, a camera, and a mic into position backstage to do an impromptu save.

Gimme a few and I'll try to replay it on my DVR and type what Kanye's comments were.

Edited to add: Just checked some lyrics of Kanye West (yes, it's Kanye, pronounced "con-yay") on a couple of random songs. He has one called "Jesus Walks" but I saw the s word in it. Then the other one I checked was "Two Words," which has a handful of the s word, the f word, and the c word. He might rap about Jesus, but I doubt he's on a Christian music record label and he probably won't get a Dove Award (CCM's version of the Grammy's).

Okay, Mike Myers part was about how now there is 25 feet of water over what once were city streets and thriving neighborhoods that have now been changed tragically and possibly irreversibly.

Then Kanye cleared his throat and said, "I hate they way the portray us in the media. You see a black family, it says they're looting; you see a white family, it says they're looking for food. And you know, it's been five days because most of the people are black. And even for me to complain about it, I would be a hypocrite because I tried to turn away from the TV because it's too hard to watch. I even been shopping before and given a donation, so now I'm calling my business manager right now to see what is the biggest amount I can give and just to imagine if I was down there and those are my people down there. So anybody out there who wants to do anything, with the setup, the way America is setup to help the poor, the black people, the less well-off as slow as possible. I mean this is...the Red Cross is doing everything they can. We already realize a lot of the people that could help are at war right now fighting another way and they've given them permission to go down and shoot us."

Then Mike continued on his part which, thanks to Kanye, didn't flow into the previous rant. Mike's part was about how the destruction of the spirit of the survivors may be the most tragic loss of all. Sounds to me like Kanye's part *should have been* more details into the landscape and history of the city.

Then Kanye said, "George Bush doesn't care about black people."

I guess they zapped Kanye's mic and Myers started to say, "Please call..." probably under someone's direction to break away. But then the live shot was of Chris Rock making a simple, impromptu plea for everyone to do what they can.

Okay, just relaying what was said for clarification. Let's not go overboard, k?

This Kayne West loser .. what is he, some American Idol idiot or something? I'd never heard of him until I TRIED to watch Live8 (for the music, not the anti-Bush rants) on "M"TV (just what does the 'M' stand for in "M"TV anyway?) only to hear that idiot blame the CIA and Bush for crack in the 'hood and that kind of cr4p!

He's a race-baiter and apparently there are a large number of, umm, .. people .. (I was going to use a word which starts with "id" and ends with "ots") who buy into it!

Oh, and whatever it was that he was, umm .. singing (?) .. wasn't anything that would be considered music in MY 'hood!

I have never herd of this guy before his little uncalled for and very poorly timed rantings tonight. But then again I don't listen to Rap... much more a Pink Floyd person myself.

Fortunately, I missed tonight's little "soiree" because I was afraid I'd see George Clooney, Susan Sarandon, or Sean Penn, and I didn't have my Extra-Strength Emetrol!

Nope, it was pretty much all celebs from LA/MS/AL (Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Aaron Neville, Harry Connick) or those who have worked there recently (Hilary Swank). It really wasn't political at all, aside from KW. Actually, very touching. Neville sang Randy Newman's "Louisiana 1927" (read the lyrics...eerie). McGraw sang Petra's "More Power To Ya" (old Christian rock song from the 80's and a fave of mine). And Connick and the entire list of scheduled performers sang "When the Saints Go Marchin' In." Obviously, there were more than that, but too numerous to mention.

What a bunch of crap. I cannot believe what I heard

Yeah. According to those who want to blame the Feds and Bush, we haven't had ANY troops there until today, and yet this "informed" moron says that the Pres gave permission to shoot [at Blacks] ...

To quote Steve Martin .. Well EXCUUUSE MEEEE! It would seem that the ONLY people doing the shooting are those fine citizens of NOLA!! Snipers firing at helicopters trying to rescue patients from hospitals, etc. Now I realize that all it takes is a few thugs among tens of thousands of good people to make trouble, but come on!

It would seem that getting a recording contract (does it even take talent these days) or having a current movie in the theaters, or even someone who knows anyone who has been in, produced, or directed a movie in the last forty years, or any offspring of anyone who has been in, produced, or directed a movie in the last forty years, or any friend of a friend of a friend of anyone who has been in, produced, or directed a movie in the last forty years or who has served as a gardener, housekeeper, or pool boy of anyone who has been in, produced, or directed a movie in the last forty years, automatically becomes (overnight) a Rhodes Scholar on everything that has anything to do with National, International, Galactic, or Local affairs. And I do so value their contribution to society!

Mr. West needs to join the short fat chick from the Dixie Chicks and take a long walk on a short pier.

Maybe we need to bring back lip syncing and give these "Artists" a dummy mic.

People, this forum is about Hurricane recovery and aftermath, not about performers and their usefulness, uselessness, etc. Let's take it back to where it needs to be as far as discussion is concerned please.

From the initial post of this thread.

Kayne West just on live TV said "They gave permission to shoot us" and "President Bush does not care about blacks!!"

This whole race thing is rediculous.

Well at least he's getting the word out that permission has been given to shoot. Now maybe the violence will cease....

It still has nothing to do with the thread, just because she is a black woman.

And yes all of the race baiting that is going on is way past ridiculous!!!! NO is a city that was/is 67% African American. I would expect that the majority of the people I would see in or from that city would be of the same race based on that. But for people to make statements such as we are seeing about them being targeted is at an absolute minimum LUDICROUS!!
