>>Its mostly toast any way. Why did they even open a city that is under sea level. Expect every time a tropical storm or hurricane moves into the Gulf for this to happen.

Because of the strategic importance to the nation. As Senator Landrieu ably points out time and time again, this isn't some tourist coast where there a bunch of condos, super rich land developers and such, it's a working coast. Grain and feed for 43 states passes through our port. A large percentage of the nation's natural gas comes from the area, a major chunk of the nation's oil supply comes from our offshore waters, and the city is situated 80 or so miles up-river from acess to the interior of the nation (strategic defense). According to a recent show I watched on Discovery, New Orleans was some of the highest land around the area when they decided to build the port.

/setting the record straight

There is not one model that brings it anywhere near the coast of Louisiana. Every model bring it to southwest-central west Florida coast. I think the northern gulf coast can breathe a sigh of relief and enjoy cooler temps coming up Monday.

I agree cajungal, I got nervous sunday, but it looks like the Northern gulf coast should be okay. I love winter, and I plan to enjoy every second it is chilly! I just hope things don't go to bad in Florida though.

While I don't want a storm coming our way, I never been a fan of cold weather. I never been one to take the cold well. I already miss swimming and summer stuff. We have been wearing shorts the last couple of weeks. The only time I get excited for it to get cold is if there is any possibility of snow in the forecast. And you know we only get that down in SE Louisiana about once every 15 years!
