Gilbert's eye got down to 6NM diameter in between vortext obs. Smallest eye until now I ever saw on satellite was STY June in 1975 at 876 mb with a 3NM diameter eye. Wilma's eye up to 4 NM in diameter now so the storm is near its peak intensity and lowest pressure and we should be starting an ERC in about 12 hours. Incidentally, these extreme RICs are totally unpredictable which is why NHC (and JTWC, Tokyo and the Australian BOM) miss them.
