Uh...since this is a parocial school under the Roman Catholic Church's venue, the municipal authorities do not have jurisdiction; unless charges are filed for assault against the boy in question, which would then place HIM, not the RC school, under the juvenile courts.

Filing charges against the other boy is something my BIL wants to do. I haven't heard yet how the meeting went.

They went straight to the priest!! Suspension, 30 points off his (the kid who hit him, they said the one who fell was an accident) conduct, and the school will pay all medical costs and for the replacement of Robert's glasses.

Woo Hoo! I am so glad to hear that. I think that was appropriate. He got more that a smack on the hand.

And the school took responsiblity and is paying for all medical, that is really great. Have they heard from the boys parents in regards to this? I would think they would make a phone call here soon, and maybe make the kid apologize for his actions as well.

The school said there were going to call the child's parents. Kathy said the kid was crying, but he admitted to everything. She said the kid that fell on Robert came up to him and apologized as well.

I'm glad this has been resolved satisfactorily.

Now, it might be a good time to teach the kid how to defend himself against bullies. I'm not saying this to be contenious, but every boy needs to know how to keep this stuff rom happening to him.

I hear what you are saying! Robert is not a whimp by any means. He will go back at them. Kathy does have him in Kung Fu, which he is doing very well with. But when a child twice as big as you catches you off guard, and at the age of 10, you are going to lose.

I LOVE it when a plan comes together! However, instead of Kung Fu, (considering coppertop's experience) I'd enroll Robert in a Tae Kwon Do dojong.

I'm glad you didn't take offense to my suggestion.

Obviously he can still run into problems, and of course fighting should never be the first option to get out of a situation. However sometimes with bullies there is no other way out of it, and sometimes there are no adults around to help out.

My nephew took Tai Kwon Do and he's glad that his classes in that area are over as he hated it.

My son is enrolled in Tae Kwan Do and he finds it a great stress reliever. He is testing for senior Brown Belt next month and for Black later next year. My son is very tall with long legs which gives him an advantage with the kicks.

sunny I am so glad to hear everything turned out well!!!!!!!!!!!! Bullies are a real problem in school.........my daughter is only 5 but she takes a dance class at this place and they also have Tae Kwon Doe classes too..............she always wants to stop and watch them for a minute...........so I said maybe when your about 8 or 9 you can take that class if you want..........and she said yea..........i told her it teaches you good self defense!!!!! I hope you and your family have a nice Christmas!!!

coppertop is built much the same way...6"1", 160 lbs., all muscle with LONG legs. His Master has said to me that my son will be an excellent forms competitor, and also that his "power" is more forceful than many more accomplished senior belt holders (his school has electronic measuring devices).

For all that, my son is humble, doesn't "advertise" his skill or rank, and looks "harmless" in social settings or just on the street. He wants it that way...keeps the "other guy" unawares, should he HAVE to employ it.
