I am hoping that a little luck will prevail this year, but if we have a busy season as forecast, I believe that South Florida could indeed be under the gun this season.
It will be interesting to see what type of steering currents prevail during this upcoming season. Some experts believe that when things changed in 04 with regards to the paths the storms began to take, that they weren't likely to do a flip-flop back to what they were before the 2004 season anytime soon. Then again, 05 was different than 04 in some ways, but it was still very much unlike what occured during the 90's through 2003 with Atlantic storms and frequent recurvature away from Florida. Last years storms were, for lack of a better word, "sneaky."
Will South Florida Be Hit by a Major Hurricane this Year?
