I go on walks with my little brother sometimes(usually with my dad and sometimes sister) around the block, down the neighbors driveway, down the road behind our house, down the road in front of our house. Sometimes it's not everyday, but it does happen pretty frequently during the week. He'll walk you to death at times.

Walking? Naah, I use my bycicle. I don't have a car, so I do everything by bike. It keeps you in a good shape though.

I walk all over the clinic and take the steps to the second floor a ot as they frown on the workers taking the elevator, but that's it. I used to walk 8 miles a day when I was going to grade school, we weren't allowed to stay for lunch, and I lived 2 miles away, so from 1st to 8th grade I walked 8 miles a day, 5 days a week. It'll probaly kill me to do that again

Im in a steps program at work currently. I'm trying to do between 10K to 12K steps a day right now. The program lasts for 12 weeks, and once its done, I'm planning on not stopping it either. I've noticed since I started this a little over 3 weeks ago now, I'm feeling more energetic and my distance is increasing termendously. I'm hoping by the middle parts of this program, that I'm doing anywhere from 13K to 16K steps a day.

I Love It, it is hard to get started but much easier to do it if you have someone to walk with. Charlie and Buster don't slow us down, yesterday Charlie had us moving big time he was in the mood to go and we were right behind him moving fast lol Buster well he's a little older but moves right along too. I may try to take Jackpot(my dog) tomorrow night and see how that works, he is not happy when I leave the house and don't take him. He knows when I put my tennis shoes on where I'm going. Anyway I already have more energy and sleep much better.

Bre - my first 10 minutes are usually the most rough. I set up a custom program on my treadmill, but once I get passed that first 10 minutes I get cruisin' :D

An hour sunny that's so great that you have that much energy in the morning, don't do like I did, keep it up. It's not hard to get started anymore what I should have said in my first statement was it was hard to convince myself I had to do it lol you know sitting on the couch saying "I should get up and go for a walk" then answering myself "nah I'll do it tomorrow" lol I am really enjoying myself and I think next week Frick and I are gonna go for two miles

Ah, gotcha Bre :D

You know, I do it in the morning because I found that I would talk myself out of working out in the evenings. I'd find too many excuses NOT to. So I get up and get on the treadmill in the mornings. That way it's done and out of the way! It makes me feel better, too.

Do you think the treadmill or the indoor exercise bike is better?

I've heard that people are more likely to continually use a treadmill more than any other piece of cardio equipment. I really love mine. I didn't think I would like it until I was stuck in Baton Rouge after Katrina. Everything was so crowded that joining a gym was next to impossible. So I bought a pair of tennis shoes and started walking up and down the parking garage at the office we were in and found that I just really enjoyed walking. So when I came home, I bought my treadmill :D

Thanks, this would probably be good for John and me since we both have high blood pressure and he has some heart problems. The doctor told him exercise is good for him.

I also prefer indoor exercise. I have sprained my ankles so many times over the past 20+ years, on curbs, steps, walking the dog and while wearing high heels, since I don't wear them often. When we got the treadmill, my first thought was - I'll walk right off this thing! I saw a lady do that at the Y, she just walked right off it and fell behind it. She was okay but I thought to myself - that will be me someday. So I held on all the time, LOL. In time I learned to let go and walk in the middle of the pad. Now I walk fast enough and with enough confidence, that I swing my arms. For a better workout. Basically what I like about having our own treadmill is the privacy - you can walk wearing anything and at your own pace (slow as you want). My only advice would be not to run on it. A neighbor has gone thru 3 motors on his treadmill, b/c he runs at 10 MPH. He just wears the motors out.

Mine too, at least in the summer; in the winter I tend to actually use it. As long as there is something interesting on HGTV or Discovery, I can go for at least 45 minutes without noticing how long it has been.

One night it will be Charlie the cairn terrier and the next night it will be Buster the poodle. I don't know who's more worn out....me & Bre or the dogs!

BTW Bre...Charlie is plopped down on the floor still panting!

I have been looking for a cairn for quite a while now - aren't they a blast? We used to have one when I was a kid, and had a couple of litters of baby cairns. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any within 200 miles or so of me.

Been a "walker" since around 1993. Avg about 3 miles a day. I DID set one strange goal; when we crossed the millenium, I determined to walk 2,000 miles in the year 2,000... catalogued each one too--- wound up with 2,108 by the end of the year 2,000. Don't know what that averages out to; but I tried for aroung 5 mi/day... but I do recall the most I did on one day was approx. 14 mi. I enjoy walking too... thought about a treadmill, as the weather (either hot or thundershowers) puts pretty unbearable constraints on exactly when I can walk); but the good ones are SO expensive... Sunny, what kind do you have? I'd like to have one indoors for those nasty weather/sticky hot days...but if it's one of those $1,000. plus thingys, I'll just have to continue squeezin' in my street walks as I have for the past 14 years.

The climate is one reason I really do enjoy my treadmill - it's never too hot or too cold in my apartment!!!! I have a Pro-Form XP5 - absolutely love it. With the three year maintenance agreement I think I paid like $800 (got it at Sears), and that included the $60 delivery and set up fee. The bed does fold up, but I just leave mine down. I have a friend down the hall from me that does fold hers up after she uses it, though.
