Thanks.

I didn't really know that. I thought it was like a 20 or 25 foot wave that came in.

I wonder what it was like with the levees broke in N.O. ?

I wonder how powerful and high the wall of water was like in Lakeview, 9 th ward, etc.

I guess thats why Tsunamis have like 400 times the power of a hurricane I heard.

Sense they bring a huge wall of water in so quickly!

The force must be amazing.

It's not just the "wall" of water they bring; but it's the potentially MILES of water that could be behind pushing it forward...(and water ain't light--just try carrying a full bucket of it--now multiply that a few billion/trillion times) just enormous amount of energy. Remember these things travel at speeds sometimes well over 300 mph (I've heard over 500 in some cases) out in the deep sea. They do slow down as the water shallows out; but there's an enormous amount of energy behind them.

Still, while no "tsunami" the devastation along areas of the MS Gulf Coast were pretty much just as devastated along certain strips of land. In that regard it was "their tsunami"... thankfully the death toll wasn't what it might have been.

There is an excellent DVD from WLOX in Biloxi, Katrina: South Mississippi's story. Definitely worth 20 bucks. Great footage before, during and after.

max wrote:i am looking to get the best Hurricane Katrina video out there. Does anyone have a opinion on which one that would be please?

It can be free or not. I know there are several not free ones and I am sure those are the best but which one is the best?

I don't want to get them all because that would be wasteful.

Maybe someone who already has one or another can help tell me how the one they got that way I can compare them.

I agree with you. "Hurricane Katrina: South Mississippi's Story" is the best video I've seen on Katrina's visit to Mississippi.

I'd heard the WLOX video was a good one as well. I'd still like to see what this guy caught in Empire, though--wish he had a trailer of it; because that would have been absolutely when the storm was at its strongest coming in (at least wind-wise). I'm just not so certain about the quality of the video, especially with no sample segment for anyone to view.

Katrina video

#26 Postby Stormhunter27 » Tue Aug 01, 2006 12:09 pm

I was in the parking garage of the Hancock Bank in Gulfport during Katrina. Most of my video is of the wind, but I do get some good surge footage. Nothing like Mike's stuff though. Check out http://www.facethewind.com too. Dave's got a great DVD.

I'd say check out my website but recently the servers that it was hosted on were stolen and so went my site! I'm working on getting it up again, but it'll take another week or so. When it's up and running again it'll be http://www.stormhunter.ca

If anyone's interested, email me at stormunter27@gmail.com.

I have to say that Katrina was the single most intense experience of my life.

Wrong. They just got lucky. The lighthouse in St. Andrews did not survive.

You may have found yourself under water in Biloxi if you had been in the lighthouse.

Just to thow in my two cents...I shot the storm in AL and the aftermath in New Orleans. Was down there into October. Like Mark, it was the most intense thing I've ever seen, the whole thing was just huge and the pace of operations was insane. It beat out the fall of Baghdad, and that was pretty crazy. (but Sarajevo cut the deepest...)

It's on my MYspace page.

I saw some of then guy's video caught in Empire, LA for free a few days ago! First time I have ever seen it too! Its where Hurricane Katrina directly hit with her eastern eye wall when she was a strong Cat. 4 hurricane! At her meanest and most powerful wind wise and of course storm surge wise as well. So they had a double blow.

Well if you can tell me where I might get a preview of something on this guy's video, I might be inclined to look into it further; but I really don't like to buy a pig in a poke.

That was some excellent video !

Can you imagine trying to check into that Katrina motel for a nice relaxing day, totally unaware of what's coming, and then this happens ??

Imagine what 175 mph sustained winds would do to that little town
