well for what its worth! it does look to be a little more impressive than I thought it was when i saw it this morning :)

two things that are going against it ... are the stable air (that should give way to unstable a little farther west) and the other is that its small and more likely just a simple ITCZ swirl.

although it does have a little more to it than the average Swirl! So there is a slightly higher possibility to see some try and get going

there is a clearly a small closed low if its all the way to surface that would help but if we see some more convection then maybe. just have to wait and see!

Pretty good spin, little convection. I'm watching it now.

Off the subject; when is Steward with NHC? HE was the best in writing up Hurricane discussions.

He isn't coming back from Iraq before mid-season 2008.

There was a thread here at S2K a while back. Stewart is a Commander in the Naval Reserve, and is with a unit training Iraqi police and soldiers.

Isn't this way too far south to develop?

Tropical cyclones routinely develop much closer to the equator than this thing around the world.

And even in the Atlantic, 9N wouldn't be any sort of record for furthest-south development.

uhh...maybe my eyesight is bad or my brain is slow...but im pretty sure 48hours is 2 days and not 3-5...it will likely not develop in the next 2 day, if at all. However, have you seen how low the shear is in the western Caribbean? If it makes it there, it could have a better shot at development

Actually there is a bit of convection now. The models look like it could get a bit moister there.

Actually your naming a religion, and not a geographic location.

Geography of Asia
Sovereign states

btw, I know you knew it was in Asia... I'm just not understanding what religion has to do with it.
