I was a newbie when Debby occurred; only online for a couple months, and using forecast models for the first time....and cluelessly thought they were foolproof.
I now look back at hurricane
Debby as a very valuable learning experience:
1) not to put stock in the GFDL's intensity forecast..
2) never lay all your cards on the table (i.e.- "Debby will be a major hurricane in South Florida")...evaluate all the possibilities..
3) don't ever disregard observed shear in the projected path of a hurricane, no matter what the models say.
Oh well, at least I didn't crash and burn alone....so did meteorologist Bryan Norcross -- who was also sure Debby was the next big South Florid hurricane...and said so on the CBS Evening News.
Time for the all to familiar dinner
