It's NOT :?: And here ALL of my life I thought it WAS?

Arkess....that's a GREAT Christmas tradition, I know of SO few people these days who actually take the time to TRULY understand the TRUE meaning of Christmas (other than presents and trees :ggreen: )

Yeah, we hit Wally World today just to see ALL the hopla and Gesus...whatta JOKE, EVERYWHERE you looked, Christmas this, Christmas THAT (gotta admit Cajunmama, I've done MY shopping too, now if I can ONLY remember when it comes Christmas where I HID the presents!) :ggreen: :cheesy: :ggreen: :cheesy:

I think this early xmas season stuff is a lost cause. We are controlled by the Marketing World and there's not much we can do about it. Ask around, start your own poll, people are decorating their homes before Thanksgiving now! I've asked around and those that do (since in their minds, the malls are decorated, why not?) almost whisper - yes I'm decorated now, and they also provide lots of excuses: it's too busy the day after Thanksgiving or I work more hours before xmas, this is the only time of the year I can decorate.

I've given up. I have a relative who sends out his xmas cards right after Halloween. His card hasn't arrived yet but I predict one day next week it will. I misplaced it one year and he wanted to know where it was (since I display our xmas cards on a wall quilt I sewed, in the order they arrived)! I said if you didn't send it out so dang early, I wouldn't misplace it. Sigh......

I have such a short xmas shopping list this year to - less than 5 gifts to purchase. I don't even know how to act this year. LOL

But I just give up on this early xmas rush. It's almost as if by Dec. 25th, xmas decorations/merch, etc. has been around for so long, it feels like 3 months! LOL

Do some of you have nothing else to complain about except for Christmas songs playing on the radio and decorations being put up in November? I think it's a GREAT thing that our country cherishes the holiday season as much as it does and wants to start celebrating early. What on earth is wrong with that? I really don't get what the problem is with this? As for the "it's too commercial, blah blah blah, really? Is it? Again, that whine is so old, the cheese has molded.

I totally agree. Looks like we have a bunch of grinches on the forum.

This time of year is what life is all about IMO. And I don't think that some of you know how fast time goes, it will be Thaksgiving before you know it so who cares if they are already playing Christmas music.

It's almost impossible to argue that Christmas is not a commercial sensation.

No one here is saying that they are hearing "Merry Christmas" from friends. No one is saying their neighbors have all the lights up. No one is saying that churches are putting on Christmas shows already. They're saying that STORES are decorated. Think about it.

It's amazing what marketing agencies can do with a holiday. Don't tell me you think Valentine's Day has some deep, traditional roots. :D

No, actually, the thread was not really about stores being decorated, it really seemed more about music on the radio, decorations, cards, and all Christmas stuff in general. Also, yes, of course stores will react to busy shopping seasons, they'd be stupid not to. The shopping has begun for many who like to get a head start, but just because stores do this doesn't ruin the season for me. In fact, I love seeing the elaborate displays in some of the larger department stores. They're very pretty. :D

It's not that it is too commercial. It is more like one holiday at time, please.

Exactly. When one aisle contains Halloween merchandise and the next one Christmas, you know that everything is starting to blur together in a Toffleresque "wave" fashion -- and soon we will all be swept away in the flood!

Has anyone seen Valentine's Day items starting to replace the Halloween stuff yet? Wouldn't be surprised if it hasn't begun somewhere already...

It's the most magical and special time of the year. I bet if you think about it, some of your best memories, are things that happened on Christmas morning.

I'm already listening to christmas music. LOL.

It's great.

I see lights for Thanksgiving already. I thought they left their Halloween lights on, but they have their Thanksgiving decoration up.

I still see these Halloween lights still up as of today. They are orange lights.

Orange lights. That'll work for Thanksgiving too with Thanksgiving colors being orangy, brown & green.

We have an older couple that lives a few blocks away from me. They are soooo cute. They decorate for every single holiday. When Halloween is over, the very next day they have the Thanksgiving decorations all over their yard. The day after Thanksgiving they are totally decorated for Christmas. It's like they have little elves that come in the night and take down and reset their yard!!!! I love it!!

My Christmas lights will go up this weekend but not be turned on until December 1. My kids will be home for Thanksgiving so on Friday we'll probably put up my Christmas tree and have fun doing it together.

I love to hear Christmas carols all year long although some make me cry.
