This is a historically intense storm. For landfall to be happening at its absolute peak is so unfortunate

I think, given its satellite appearance and landfall near peak intensity, that Melissa will be referred to as the “Haiyan of the Atlantic” in years to come.

Make that -2.97C

Eye dryness has risen to -2.97C. Significantly dryer than any tropical cyclone ever recorded. Don't know how much that matters in the grand scheme of things but it's worth noting.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

We're about to see the sunrise over one of the most impressive hurricanes ever in the Atlantic. The "incredible satellite images" thread is about to have some stunning entries.

Melissa aiming for the Black River to Crane Corner area...

Do you consider a NNE track or a NE turn before landfall?

For what it's worth, this will be another upper echelon DAY TIME landfall.

I'm not a meteorologist, I'm an electronics engineer. While I can probably fix your toaster oven, you're not going to learn about storms from me!

New Mexico had no hurricanes. Then I moved to NC right before Fran.....

The storm chaser videos could rival Dorian.

Well, just woke up and expected to see a storm that was somewhat weaker than last night.

Boy was I wrong....901 MBAR?! And it still looks like a super typhoon. Melissa seems to be one of those extremely rare storms that steadily intensify and continue to fend off any major disruptive EWRCs. Praying for Jamaica during this moment.

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

If she's in the 880's I'll be beyond shocked. She certainly has (and has had, for nearly the past 24 hours) the satellite appearance for it though.

Jamaica, of all places, getting the Haiyan of the Atlantic is just difficult to fathom.

This is a storm my friends and many other Jamaicans will keep talking about for generations.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like Melissa's intensification is relenting anytime soon. This is upper-tier of all storms I've tracked, presentation-wise.

NOAA just departed from Lakeland. May make it just in time for landfall, but it will be tight.

Raw T# back up to 8.2 after a 'dip' to 8.1. CDO is cooling again and the eye is warming compared to one hour ago. This is some Haiyan or Patricia level insanity, I've never seen a storm like this in the Atlantic.

There's a thread setup for links to videos, webcams, pics from the local area.

https://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/viewtopi ... 5#p3145945

This is good place to place links that people can find.

AF303 is at operational level and is entering Melissa from the east as we speak, about 200 miles from the eye.
