I'm 58....originally from Holland. I became interested when we got hit by Kate in 1985. I remember sitting with husband and kids in the middle of the house and the winds howling all night long. Lost power (stayed out for 10 days) and the only communication was a local radio station that the police were using and you could hear all the people they were trying to get out of trapped houses with trees on them. Finally when daylight came we went outside and couldn't believe our eyes. So much destruction, so many trees and power lines down.

Thanks Storm2k for this great site.

I'm 21 and this is my 10th season of tracking storms (got my first tracking map in 1996).

However, I have been following, but not tracking, storms since 1992.

I'm 43 (44 on July 26th) and have been tracking for 15 years. I'm the "unofficial" hurricane person in our office at work!

Stormcenter wrote:How old is everyone on this board and how long have you been tracking storms? If you guys and gals don't want to answer that's fine. I was just curious.

I'm 41 and have been tracking storms for 26 years.

I am 38 and I have not really been paying much attention to storms, until last year. I realized that the more we know, the better we can be prepared. My husband is born here in Florida, while I came from Norway several years ago.

24 years old. Began tracking 20 years ago, believe it or not. That is when my family and I had to evacuate twice for Hurricane Elena. I was hooked on weather from that point forward.

28 (almost 29)

Around age 8 a lightning bolt hit within 50 yards of me, striking a tree. It at first scared the you know what out of me, but soon, the curiosty set in. I used to live in the bottom of Tornado alley, so strong storms were quite frequent, and many time I've spent in the middle hallway or in the bathtube with a mattress over me. I find Mother Natures fury to be facsinating, it amazes me what she can do. Hurricanes just fell right in place when we moved to the coast. I suppose I've tracked canes for about 10 years, however not as much as I do know, as its become an obsession, heh.

cheers,
loon

I am 48.

Started to look at weather by looking at clouds as a little kid but after Hugo strucked here I was really motivated to look at hurricanes.
