Just happened upon this site today, so I am not yet up to speed on how it works, but I figured I would say hello. I live on Kadena AB, Okinawa, and am a lead met in the USAFR. Followed various weather sites today (JMA, Kadena Weather, etc etc), until the power got knocked out. What an interesting Friday the 13th... I have a bit of video and some photos, but most of the photos have yet to be shot - waiting until we are released from our homes tomorrow, then I will check out the damage around this part of the island.

Will be more than happy to post some photos within the next day or so. I am thrilled; my ears have finally "popped". I believe Naha's (ROAH) lowest ALSTG was 27.75. Yikes. Kadena Air Base is approx. 17 km north of Naha.

Yeah, 940 hPa was the lowest pressure recorded at Naha Airport.

Storm is near Okinoeramu, and the airport there is Amami Airport (RJKA):

Howdy all. First post. Not much to add about Man-Yi, although I did spend about an hour at the air base there as a passenger on a charted Flying Tigers 747 (in-flight movie: "The Natural" with Robert Redford) on a flight from LAX to NAS Cubi Point w/ stops in Anchorage and Okinawa.

I am not surprised by all that rain. Japan gets most of its rain from typhoons.

Southern part of Japan. The highest rainfall total in 24 hours for Japan is 40 inches of rain!

Looking better. The eyewall has closed back up again, and the system doesn't look as ragged as it did before. Probably not what Kyushu wants to see.
