Hey jschlitz, above I posted a pic from my backyard during the dust storm(or whatever it's called). Here's one from later that evening after is subsided, but not totally clear. Comparing the 2 gives a good idea of how it was on Saturday afternoon.

Ahh, thanks.

By far the most/thickest I have seen in DFW. It looks like a Lubbock to me. Although I saw some out there where you couldn't see the pavement in front of you.

That lake in the background(Lake Ray Hubbard) is about 1/2 mile away. So that gives an indication of how the visibility was reduced. Now I'm wondering what kind of weed spores were transported along with that dust.

I agree! I grew up out there and remember the wall of dust coming in from the West. You could see it coming and it would hit your legs and just sting like fire. I don't miss it at all. My parent's house was built in the 70's so none of the windows opened and we would still have a thick layer of red dirt on all the window sills and on the furniture. My dad said his back yard was FULL of tumble weeds.

Today is gonna be another nice day. Mostly Sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 70s. How long will this last? At least through tomorrow. By Friday, highs will temporarily dip to near 60, but it'll all be back to normal by the beginning of next week. As far as rain is concerned, it's been taken off the forecast...again.

Today's gonna be another windy day in North Texas, only it's not gonna be as bad as it was over the weekend. However the...dare I say it...fire danger is in place due to lower humidity levels, therefore a RED FLAG WARNING is in place for the western 1/4 of North Texas until 7:00PM CST this evening.

NWS - Fort Worth wrote:SOUTHWEST AND WEST WINDS OF 15 TO 20 MPH...WITH GUSTS TO 30 MPH...
WILL COMBINE WITH AFTERNOON RELATIVE HUMIDITIES OF 10 TO 18 PERCENT
ACROSS THE RED FLAG WARNING AREA THROUGH THE AFTERNOON AND EARLY
EVENING. THE STRONG WINDS AND EXTREMELY LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES
WILL DRY OUT THE DORMANT VEGETATION AND CREATE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS
WILDFIRE CONDITIONS.

A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
ARE EITHER OCCURRING NOW...OR WILL SHORTLY. A COMBINATION OF
STRONG WINDS...LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY...AND DRY VEGETATION WILL
CREATE EXPLOSIVE FIRE GROWTH POTENTIAL. AVOID ALL OUTSIDE BURNING
AND WELDING TODAY. DO NOT TOSS LIT CIGARETTE BUTTS OUTSIDE.
REPORT WILD FIRES TO THE NEAREST FIRE DEPARTMENT OR LAW
ENFORCEMENT OFFICE.

That doesn't concewrn the immediate DFW area, however we should take extra caution.

The National Weather Service has extended and enlarged the RED FLAG WARNING to include all of North Texas until 6:00PM CST Thursday.

NWS - Fort Worth wrote:A DRY LINE IS MOVING INTO THE EXTREME WESTERN PORTIONS OF NORTH
TEXAS THIS AFTERNOON...BRINGING GUSTY SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS AND DRY
CONDITIONS.

A COLD FRONT WILL ENTER THE WESTERN PART OF NORTH TEXAS LATE TONIGHT
AND SWEEP THROUGH THE REST OF THE REGION THURSDAY MORNING. MUCH
DRIER AIR AND GUSTY WEST TO NORTHWEST WINDS OF 20 TO 35 MPH ARE
EXPECTED BEHIND THE FRONT.

A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS

It seems La Nina is trying to sneak her way up to Texas once again, because the fire danger continues this week. A RED FLAG WARNING continues for all of North Texas.

NWS - Fort Worth wrote:.A DRY LINE AND COLD FRONT ARE MOVING ACROSS NORTH TEXAS THIS
MORNING. NORTHWEST WINDS GUSTING TO 30 MPH BEHIND THE FRONT AND
HUMIDITIES BELOW 20 PERCENT WILL CREATE EXTREME FIRE DANGER ACROSS
THE AREA TODAY.

A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS

CREATE EXPLOSIVE FIRE GROWTH POTENTIAL. AVOID ALL OUTSIDE BURNING
AND WELDING TODAY. DO NOT TOSS LIT CIGARETTE BUTTS OUTSIDE. REPORT
WILD FIRES TO THE NEAREST FIRE DEPARTMENT OR LAW ENFORCEMENT
OFFICE.

Also, the National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for all of North Texas.

NWS - Fort Worth wrote:A DRY LINE AND COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH NORTH TEXAS TODAY.
BEHIND THE FRONT STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS IN THE 20 TO 30 MPH RANGE
ARE EXPECTED. WINDS SHOULD DECREASE TO AROUND 15 MPH BY SUNSET.

A WIND ADVISORY MEANS THAT SUSTAINED WINDS OF AT LEAST 20 TO
30 MPH ARE EXPECTED. WINDS THIS STRONG CAN MAKE DRIVING
DIFFICULT...ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. BOATERS SHOULD
USE EXTRA CAUTION WHEN VENTURING ONTO AREA LAKES. RESIDENTS MAY
WISH TO TAKE ACTION TO SECURE TRASH CANS...LAWN FURNITURE...AND
OTHER LIGHTWEIGHT OUTDOOR OBJECTS THAT MAY BE BLOWN AROUND IN THE
STRONG WINDS.

Both weather alerts are scheduled to expire at 6:00PM CST this evening, however, the Red Flag Warning may be extended to the weekend.

Anyways, we will be getting another cooldown this weekend as highs will be in the 50s and lows will be in the lower to mid 30s.

I know it's early, but so far this is looking like last Spring. Which was dry. We don't need this again.

Don't shoot the messenger, but we're gonna have freezing temperatures Saturday Night and again Sunday Night. The good news...it's not gonna be all that windy this weekend as last time.

Today's another mild day, but like I said in the last post, it's not gonna last throughout the weekend. Hopefully it'll be the last freeze before spring starts. Also, any chances of rain are very few far in between...again. The good news: it's gonna warm back up by the beginning of next week.

We're still gonna need our sweaters and light jackets for the next 2 mornings before temperatures really warm up on Wednesday. We also have a slight chance of thunderstorms this weekend, although there's no severe weather threat, we still should keep an eye on the forecast for sudden changes.

Ready for the good news/bad news forecast? The Good News is that we're gonna be experiencing an early spring with highs in the upper 60s and 70s throughout the week. The Bad News is that we're gonna have to endur yet another wildfire season. However, we'll have a slight chance of thunderstorms Friday Night to the beginning of the weekend.

Another day, another sunshine. By the beginning of the weekend, well be doing this :layout: , but by the evening through Monday Night we'll be seeing more of this :rain: or this :raincloud: . Then again, considering the imminent worst fire season, any rain is welcome.

This morning, we had a surprise line of showers in the North Texas area. It has swept through the DFW area around 7:30AM bringing only .01 in. of rain. That's not saying much, but by Sunday, we'll have a bigger chance of showers and thunderstorms. Nothing severe expected, but we still should keep an eye out.

Speaking of severe weather, there was a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the extreme Northeastern 1/4 of North Texas (not including DFW). It was cancelled shortly after 8:00PM.
