Yeah, you know who? We will ... this summer/fall ... when the Gulf waters are as warm as a boiling teapot. I already dread hurricane season.

Yup. Don't know how the upper level dynamics will shape up for the 2012 season, but there is no doubt that the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic seaboard will be pools of gasoline waiting for someone to light a match.

Could help lead to a rough spring severe weather season too.

Another brutal mid winter day here in Houston with temperatures struggling to reach the mid 70s...

Wasn't today supposed to be the day of the big Arctic outbreak? Thinking back to the GFS long-range back in mid January. I'm sure today's long-range GFS is correct, though...

Portastorm throws the yellow flag!

"Penalty! That's a 15-yard penalty against wxman57 for taunting and unsportsmanlike conduct. The penalty will be assessed at a unknown future date when wxman57 is miserable because of cold, icy weather."

^^^^^ LOL!!! ^^^^^

This winter's been fine in my book. This week's drought monitor incorporates all the data from the liquid snowstorm we had last week:

We still have a long way to go...

On the bright side, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow! 6 more weeks of winter! Unfortunately Houston hasn't reported a lot of sun today so Wxman57 may not have seen his cycling. Can I get some verification from H-town?

Yep, 6 more weeks of the current weather until it warms up into the 80s and 90s for good. Enjoy the highs in the 70s while they last! ;-)

Don't know if there's another thread on this, but anyways......

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/nationn ... -area.html

The Dallas area has officially moved out of drought, unlike much of the rest of Texas, but long-term projections show that the region could still face problems after one of the driest years on record.

In its posting on Thursday, the U.S. Drought Monitor said the Dallas-Fort Worth area was no longer in an official drought -- for the first time since July. The improvement was caused by recent heavy storms.

“Locally heavy rain across central and eastern drought areas contrasted with unfavorably dry, warm weather elsewhere,” the monitor noted in its commentary. “A soaking rain (2-4 inches, locally more) fell from San Angelo northeastward across Dallas-Fort Worth into southeastern Oklahoma and northwestern Arkansas. A second, smaller but locally heavier band of rain (1-6 inches) was observed from San Antonio and Austin eastward across Houston into Beaumont-Port Arthur. Consequently, widespread reductions in drought were made -- in some case up to 2 categories -- as a result of the heavy rain.”

That is NOT what the Portastorm Weather Center is forecasting for the next six weeks. Colder is coming to a Texas city near you!

That's a pretty bold forecast coming out of the PWC! Given that when things could go wrong this winter, it does. I'm shocked the center has gone all out :P. Ridge could set up too far east this time. Though I will never give in to the warm mongerers ideals!

Rumor has been going around that a secret shipment from the Moscow Vodka Museum (frigid atm anyone?) has quickly made it's way into the Portacenter secret vault...shhh
