Hopefully we can get another cold pattern that favors cold and better storminess for us and hopefully not waste it all on warm weather in January

Models often erode cold air too quickly, particularly one of this magnitude.

Masiello is on board with a brief warm up before we go coolish again in January.

I’m with the camp of those who believe that a weak polar jet means opportunities. We will know in a couple of weeks if the polar jet/vortex remains this way. I really like the -AO.

At 2:30 PM today CST the National Weather Service forecasted that the low tonight in Oklahoma City would be 28°F.

As of 8:00 PM today CST it reached 27°F.

OKC East on Mesonet is down to 25°F

How many miles is OKC from you? And are you south of there? East?

Will be wild tomorrow evening in Oklahoma. Delineation would put some places 30s and a few miles down the road less than 10F.

Note also that wind gusts of 35-45 mph will be widespread across the area after the front crosses. This is why localized power outages are probably more likely than grid issues.

Hopefully enough other people locally lose power so that I don't lose power....

Winter Weather Advisory here for 1-2 inches. I'd be happy if that verified given the horrible trends the last couple days

It is currently 28 here at my place near Weatherford, Tx. Very curious to see how this cold plays out.

Most of us is about to experience one of the greatest cold front passages in modern times and here you are dreaming of 70s and 80s .

Seems overly dramatic. Just a strong Canadian front that we seem to get every 5 years or so (hitting low 20s in Houston and mid-teens in DFW). Check temps in the Northern Plains. Only -15F to -30F. Not particularly cold for winter up there. Not much of a snow pack. This is nowhere close to 2021 (or 1983, 1989). Nowhere close.

I thought he was referring more to the abrupt temp drop and attendant winds, more so than the magnitude of cold air. Agreed these temps aren’t unprecedented, but it doesn’t seem all that common to me to see a threat for spotty power outages with the dry passage of a cold front

ONLY -15F to -30F? That is funny. But of course, it is up in the most northern reaches of the country. But still… :cold: :cold:

Dense freezing fog here. Must be very localized since there’s no advisories up.
