we have about 6 hours until heavy precip falls. I wonder if the front continues southward and dose not stall. Wouldn't this be a sufficient amount of time to allow cold air advection to drop our temps to freezing or lower? If the cold air was stronger than expected how do we know the front will stall?
freezing line is advancing now at Gainesville to Decatur

Rain at this point may rise temps due to the shallow nature of this front correct?

Temperatures will rise with the rain and that’s ok, we REALLY need the rain. With the ground still full of moisture it’ll help fill the reservoirs much quicker. Most of the folks here feed off of Lake Lavon (Collin County). The lake can’t be made any bigger, but the building still carries on along with water usage. I’m perfectly fine with this being a rain event only. This time only though, I still want my 24” of snow, and the next 2 months show hope.

I know the plight very well.

Thanks for the update. I really hope this doesn't turn out to be a major icing event. We are not prepared for that right now!

I'd be glad it's you and not me getting it. Just finished a 30 mile bike ride to downtown for dinner and to look at Christmas lights. A few light showers but with the temperature at 74 degrees it wasn't cold at all.
There's certainly no snow in Texas. Take a look at the sounding from near Wichita Falls below. Temperature near 60 degrees at 4000 ft above the surface - almost a 30 degree increase from the surface. Can't have snow with that sounding, and it's the same all across Texas in the cold air.

Re: Texas Winter 2013-2014
While we have some slight icing on some vehicles it is mostly just rain here in Wichita Falls. We are teetering on freezing temps but doesn't look like we are going to get anything too severe thank goodness.

Re: Texas Winter 2013-2014
Fort Worth officially down to 32. Mineral Wells, Graham, Decatur are all below freezing already. But remember, temps may actually rise at the onset of the heavy precip. Nonetheless, models still handled this very poorly.

Nothing that SouthernMet posts, is an official forecast, nor does it reflect views of STORM2K.. SouthernMet is just adding to the great discussions on STORM2K.. Refer to NWS for official forecasts.
Re: Texas Winter 2013-2014
Looks like the front has stalled just north of Austin putting us in the bullseye for possible severe weather overnight. Rain is increasing rapidly to the southwest too. We may see some impressive rain totals. There's nearly a 40 degree difference with 70s here and 30s behind the front.
