Rising again now, at 29.01 Highest gust on the front side was in the 60's but I am away from the water and my anemometer was partially blocked. Cape Lookout reported a gust of 83 mph earlier.

Cape Lookout was probably higher than that because it only reported once an hour while Arthur was making landfall.

According to TWC the center of the eye is still 11 miles from Cape Lookout, NC.

My radar scope says it happened several minutes ago, no big deal.

Hurricane #Arthur advisory 13 issued. Eye of #Arthur about to make landfall near Cape Lookout

I'm in Morehead City and landfall happened here at about 11:00

And first on North Carolina since 2003 [Isabel]. Quite interesting how long it's been for such a large country.

I love the North Carolina coast and have vacationed or fished most of it, from Wrightsville Beach to Corolla. This storm is sneaky scary in that it grew from nothing, and is now chewing up these barrier islands so full of beauty and history.

Someone mentioned Shackleford banks, site of Diamond City, a long defunct town which had a whaling industry. I have camped there and seen wild stallions fight over the females running full speed on the mudflats, biting and kicking each other.

Unfortunately it looks like the outer banks is going to get scrubbed good by the eastern eyewall.

Amazing that it is still keeping a great presentation on radar, the Outer Banks definitely are going to be hammered.

Ahh... Ike.... And I recall it well. Woke to a tree branch crashing through my Uncle's roof (evac'd to N Houston) in that one...

Arthur has been interesting to watch, and this discussion even more so. Prayer to all who are there. This board seems rather quiet considering we just had landfall.

There seems to be good agreement on the 85 kt landfall intensity. Haven't seen any data to justify higher, yet the SFMR definitely supports Cat 2.

Amazing it's been nearly 6 years since a cat 2 has struck the USA. Just goes to show you that every hurricane season you should be prepared if you live on the coast. Best of luck to all those in Arthur's path tonight.

I'm wondering, if the eastern eyewall remainds over water and with the center not going over too much land, could this end up continuing to strengthen slowly while over the sound? It almost seems to be getting better organized after landfall.
